The Chrysler Turbine car. 50 were made and Chrysler let people test drive it. When the evaluation period was up, Chrysler was required by the US government to destroy most of them, 9 remain today. 4 of them still run (including this one and Jay Leno's)!

Here is a neat piece of history. This is a list of all the people who got to drive the Turbine. It lists there name, town, occupation, and what they were driving at the time. Very cool!

A recreation of "Big Daddy" Ed Roth's Mysterion. The passenger side motor is a fake and doesn't run. Look closely at the driver's side motor and you will notice blueing of th chrome from heat. There is a small belt that is hidden that runs from the driver motor crank pulley to the passenger side to give the appearance that that motor is also running but it's not!

An actual Shelby Mustang Hertz "Rent A Racer" - a GT350H!

They were called Rent-A-Racer because these cars were available from select Hertz car rental outlets. Guys would rent them and literally taking them racing on the weekend, run the wee out of them, and return them to the rental counter.

Awesome pics once again. My fave this time is the Delahaye - those beautiful curves and sweeping guards. You'd happily drive it 100 metres to the shops just to be seen in it.

Wow, I mean justa wow bro! Yes, you know I love pictures, and you out did yourself Frosty one. Thank you sir. image.png.067fe47082badb18fc62a1823c5d22a3.png

This is justa amazing!

Of course, the Big Daddy Roth is cool all day man, but that Tucker is awesome. I've read about them, watched movies and documentary's but have never seen one in person. One day maybe.

I love the book with the names of everybody that test drove the turbine car, that they listed their occupation is really cool. I love stuff like that. Any idea why they had to destroy them?

i loved the apollo 13 module, after being to Cape canaveral and sooooo  being amazed by the meccano bolt together tec.

it justa amazes me !!

i am prety sure that very first pic is my boss in a glass cabinette nodding ?????

From what I understand, the turbine engines were imported from Italy. The US government told Chrysler they would have to pay import duties on them or destroy them. Given that the jet/turbine cars never resulted in any significant business for the company, Chrysler choose to destroy most of the cars since the cost of maintaining them was very high at the time. Of the original 50, 9 were saved from the crusher. I am told only 4 of the last 9 actually run today.

All this plus a trip Hooters and Tony's! Imagine coming to Michigan during our summer mate! It's automotive nirvana!
