Ram air manifold

Recommended Posts

I have fire bird ram air exhaust manifolds due to the oval port edelbrock heads.  They have 3" outlets. The muffler shop just put a flare on the exhaust pipes with no gasket.  I expected something like a flange gasket.  Of course I eventually had leakage, ground the manifold outlet for a tighter fit.

Recent modification to the car and putting a new exhaust on it.  Any suggestions for sealing these tighter?

Pictures help in situations like this. That said, are your exhaust manifolds reproductions or factory originals? I would also expected an exhaust gasket.

Can't find long tube headers for my catalina, anyone know of what might fit, I have oval ports.  I might just try a firebird set, see how it goes.

As you already know, most of the major header manufacturers don't stock a header, much less a long tube header, for a 1970 Catalina. All the love goes to the A-body and F-body cars in that year. You have a few, less than ideal choice:

1. Continue with the HO manifolds you have

2. Buy a universal kit and build a set of your own custom one-off headers (or find someone to cut and weld them up for you)

3. Call one of the larger header manufacturers and see if they will make you a custom set (a.k.a special order). They probably made them back in the day but there is no demand for them today.

Pontiacs don't have oval exhaust ports, chevys do, just FYI they are round port heads even if they look oval to you.

Why do you need long tube headers? Are you missing the constant leaking, collector ground scraping, high engine underwood heat, and hours spent changing the constantly blown gaskets?

Our RA manifolds don't leak and only make 500hp. Sounds like they didn't bell the pipe out correctly.
