Now I am not angry at Summit Racing, but I am agitated at their shipping company - UPS

I sent an oil sample to the lab I use (in Indiana) on May 4th. According to USPS, my package is still "in process to the next USPS facility" as of June 6th. Ahuh. I'm sure it is. I think it's really between the counter and the wall resting on the floor somewhere.

LOL - we should start a "Shipping Carrier Fail" thread 😁

  2. "What did you do to your car today?"

    Gave her away.

Last night was bitter sweet for me. After over thirteen years lovingly taking care of Bleen and considering her a member of the family (not to mention being Ren's sister), her time with us came to a close.

We've been looking for another vehicle, specifically a minivan, and as of last Friday we added "Rubi" to the fleet (a 2017 Toyota Sienna) which meant that the family hauler (Bleen) would be phased out. Originally, the understanding was Bleen would be sold (which I was never a fan of but understood it needed to be done) but plans changed shortly before she went up for sale in that instead of selling, we donated Bleen to a local family who very much (from the impression I got) would give Bleen an appreciated home. While I had no expectations that Bleen would go to a home that would take care of her to the OCD-level that I did, it did help the transition for me by knowing she will be appreciated and very much a value added to their household.

Here's to you, Bleen - while you may be absent you will never be forgotten. Thank you for all the memories and years of faithful service!

  3. Welcome! 🙂I've always loved the blue / white color combination of that vintage! Where was the picture taken? Guessing by the camera mounted on the windshield (and Corvette stopped behind), it's some type of car cruise?

I love detailing, as look of our classics all matters , at the end it’s show car , Otherwise I’ll drive new LS motors with turbo cars for need of speed 😎

I hear you! I have a Grand Prix that is my show car and I, too, am an avid detailer 🙂. It's a lot of work and takes a lot of time but I love seeing that shine in the end 😄

  5. Hey @Frosty - I received a response from Eric (see below). When he says "radios" (plural) he has two units - one in a Ford Fairmont build he did and the other in the Chevrolet truck build.

A review on those radios would be a nice addition. I just need to find the time to shoot it.

I’ll summarize it like this. My experience hasn’t been that great. It hasn’t been bad either. I like they way both radios look, but the sound is just adequate. If you really want it to sound good hook it up to an amp and run a sub. I also don’t like the controls. It takes a bit to get into the menus to make adjustments. Because of the limited buttons this can be problematic at times.

    I hope that’s helpful.

    Eric

Hopefully that lends at least a little help / insight into making your decision.

Stewy - I did watch your guy's truck video installation this morning on YouTube. Thank you for the referral. I would have liked to see him actually road test it and all. Any idea how much he likes it? Sounds like he was a lot "meh" after it was installed.

Hey, @Frosty - happy to help (even if it is only a little). I have done some searching on EricTheCarGuy's website as well as his YouTube channel however I have not been able to find a video / post where he gives the pros and cons of the radio and if he would recommend the Retorsound over, say, the Autosound brand.

That said, I did send Eric an email asking if he did, in fact, provide his thoughts after using the radio for a while and, if not, if he would reply back to the email with his pros / cons / etc. (I'll keep you posted if / when he replies). I have also found, on his website, a video he did of installing the radio and starting around the 29:11 time stamp, you see the radio power up and he goes on to give some likes / dislikes of the radio (however nothing in depth). To see that video (and I apologize for not being able to link directly to it but the way it's embedded in his website made it fairly difficult), follow this link and click on the video I have highlighted below:

  7. Those are generally called a "hood bumper" or "hood cushion". They can be picked up on Amazon, eBay, etc.. Check out this link on Rock Auto to see if this is what you're after. Because I'm not familiar with your year Firebird, I may be way off but maybe Frosty or someone else who is familiar with the '67's can chime in.

I'm thinking of swapping out radios. I have a rebuilt Delco AM/FM unit n Lucy now - tied to a CD changer. I am thinking of going to either a Custom Autosound or a Retrosound unit. I want to be able to play tunes from my cell and go hands free with the phone. Just wondering if anyone has had good or bad experience with either.

One of the auto mechanics I follow on YouTube (met the guy IRL a few years  back - his shop is literally next door to Kings Island in OH) rebuilt his dad's hand-me-down '90's Silverado and he put a Retrosound unit in the truck. If interested, here's a video he did about the unit - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnTdEagU7VE.

Last night I clay bared T.C.. It always amazes me just how much junk contact-washing leaves behind - even for a car that is clay bared twice a year (granted, she's a DD but I routinely keep my vehicles clean). On the docket for this evening: CarPro Iron-X the painted surfaces... I'm curious to see how much she "bleeds" purple.

  10. Back in 2010 / 2011 while I was working at the Chrysler Tech center in Auburn Hills - when Obama was doing his "fly around and visit the auto maker's plants" tour - when one day I went outside of the building and watched AF1 either heading to or leaving (I forget now) the Detroit Metro airport. If I recall correctly, Obama was visiting the Sterling Heights Chrysler plant (~20 mins away from the tech center) at that time.

    $400 each time !!

🤯 That's around $240 USD. Wow... (and I thought my oil changes were expensive at around $50 USD for the 5 quarts of oil & filter).

    Ditto.

  12. Hrmm... today I put Ren on the Battery Tender (I finished her spring detail a couple days ago). Last night I was up until almost 1am working on TC ('09 Malibu - my daily driver) - oil change, full body & power train inspection, reprogramming summer wheels, cleaning and packing up winter wheels, etc..

So TC has the 2.4L Ecotec. Big fan of the Ecotec line but I found out last night the rubber gasket that seals the engine cover (with integrated PCV manifold) to the throttle body is tearing apart. I start digging around trying to find a replacement and short of buying a used engine cover on eBay (which includes the rubber gasket), I can't find where I could get just the gasket (even reached out to the local Chevy garage and worked with my contact there). 😒.

A (annoyingly) funny things is, Dorman sells a replacement cover-to-TB gasket and they throw in the ducting that connects the air filter box to the engine cover but to buy just those two pieces are nearly $100 - for what appears to be $10 worth of rubber!! 🤦‍♂️
