I'm reinstalling the front sheet metal getting ready to paint. Have to align the hood but am having problems with the hood latch. It goes into the hole/slot perfectly and the latch and safety catch function well. The problem is when shut and I lift on the hood only it will raise in front 1.5" until the safety catch catches. What keeps the hood down snug? A couple of photos.

Finally fixed the leak in the rebuilt trans so with that done the body went on.  Now to get all the panels on and get it painted.

Thanks.  Have to fill the freezer.  We live on the moose meat all  year.

Might be a bit.  Have to wait for new trans gaskets to arrive and then it's moose season.  Doing my annual 12 day float trip here in Alaska.

Finally able to get back to the 55.  I was able to start and break in the engine.  Have a trans leak up front at the flywheel.   Removed it and found the crankshaft to flywheel gasket missing.  Ordered new gaskets and will reinstall.   

 

I got another day to work on the Pontiac.

 

 

First time I've had time to work on the Pontiac in 2 1/2 months. I'm not going to be able to work on it for another 3 or 4 weeks but after that I should have free time again.

Haven't been working on the 55 in a while.  Had to go down to my son's and spent 4 weeks finishing his basement.  1800 square feet.  Still have to go back on 2 June to finish.  I've also been getting next winters firewood done and have pulled up my oak flooring, planed the old finish off, relayed to get rid of the shrinkage cracks, sanded and am finally putting finish on.  Just wanted to let everyone know I'll be back on it around the end of June.

No lathe or mill.  I always wanted them as I can use them to make parts for my antique firearms.  Just haven't found one and no one to teach me.

 

There would have to be someone wanting them.  I'm sure they wouldn't pay $175 for mine when they could buy factory made stuff for the same price.   2 of the bolts are not something that I could find I'm sure.  They have very large washer at the head all one unit.  I just blasted mine clean, chased the threads and reused all the bolts, washers and short tubes.  None were badly deteriorated. 

I've been searching for the rubber body mounts for the 55.  Cheapest that I can find is $175 for 28 pieces of rubber.  I decided to make my own.

1.  I bought a sheet of 1/2" and a  sheet of 5/8" thick rubber.

2.  cut out the 14 2 1/8" x 1/2" square pieces.

3.  used a spade bit 1 1/4" to make the inset for the steel washer in the bottom.

4.  next I drilled the 3/4" hole through the middle using the hole that the point of the spade bit made when it exited on the other side to center the 3/4" arbor bit.

That finished the square parts.

5.  the round parts I cut out using a 1 3/8" hole saw

6.  I then used the same 3/4" arbor bit for the center hole.

Total cost $35.

Turnagain arm has some interesting weather to say the least.  Glad that I don't live around it anywhere.

I really need to empty the shop and get it all cleaned.  But, it's a bit hard to do with Alaskan winters.  lol
