Pontiac 350 CID engine = 3.875 (3 7/8) inch bore with a 3.750 (3 3/4) inch stroke for a total of 354 (353.8) Cubic inches...

The main disadvantage of building good power with a 350 Pontiac engine is the small bore size...Also the long stroke severely limits the amount of RPMs that you can turn...Anything at or above 5000/5500 RPMs ...Creates hyper piston speeds...And the engine will Not survive for any extended period time at or above those RPMs...

The small bore limits the amount of air that you can pull into the cylinders + Flame shrouding and related flame spread/burn efficiency... Issues associated with that....High duration/lift cams will compound the airflow issues into the small bores/ combustion chambers...

The # 13 D port cylinder heads have... 72cc combustion chambers with 2.11 sized intake valves with 1.77 exhaust valves...Using the 400 CID heads with the larger intake/exhaust valves on the small bore 350 engine can create a restriction in the air flow/swirl/ velocity of the air flowing into/out of the cylinders/combustion chambers....

The #47 D port (1968/69 350) cylinder head...72cc combustion chambers with 1.96 sized intake valves with 1.66 exhaust valve...Would probably be the best ones to use....When the heads are cut/surfaced to insure that they have a good flat sealing surface...Usually about .020 or so...It will also decrease the size of the combustion chambers...slightly raising the compression ratio...And burning 93 octane pump gas would not be an issue..Which with the #18 68cc combustion chambers May/May Not..Be an issue...Also whatever heads you decide to use would have to have the valve seats cut and replaced with hardened seats...To be compatible with Unleaded gas If they haven't been replaced already..

As far as the camshafts go...The "068" 400 HO cam...Or the "744" Ram Air 3 cam...Would not work well with the small bores of the 350 CID engine (even if bored .60 over)....And you would be very dissatisfied with the results...Especially when a Smart car embarrasses  you at the stoplight...

Best advice on a camshaft  would be to contact someone who specializes in camshafts...(Comp Cams...Butler...  Lunati..ETC...Tell them what you have/want... Then go from there...Please keep us informed...I'm  (other members also)   curious as to what grind they reccomend for the small bore long stroke engine...

Went to the local Cruise In today...

To elaborate further...The reason I asked if the car has headers or not...Alot of times the headers run really really close to the starter...Over time the excessive heat from the headers..Causes the Insulation between the insulated field coil/ magnets/insulated brush holder (there are two Brushes/holders..One of them is grounded to the... Starter case/frame...The Other is Not) To break down...internally inside the starter...It is a common issue...if the headers are not ceramic coated or have some sort of heat shield between the header pipe and the starter....

First thing...Make sure all the Electrical/ battery connections are clean and tight...Then make sure the battery is really fully charged using a multi meter...The battery should have a surface charge of 12 volts...With the volt meter still on the battery have someone turn the key to start the engine....If the battery voltage drops off significantly to 9/10 volts or less while trying to start the engine...That is very good indicator that the battery is NFG...If that checks out OK then move to the starter (make sure the battery cable is tight and clean at the starter) Have some turn the key again and make sure that you have 12 volts at the starter...If it does and the solenoid is operating properly chances are that the starter needs some attention....Sometimes the brushes in those old starters can get stuck...(If that is the the case occasionally you can lightly tap on the starter with a ballpeen hammer and knock them loose) Does the car have headers on it...??  Are they really close to the starter..??

Any further trouble shooting/repair of the starter will require it to be removed from the car....Those starters are designed as serviceable/repairable units and can be fixed....

Didn't mean to go off on a rant..Sorry about that...

Getting back to the question...I really don't see the G6 as being a classic..Although the convertable might attract some interest...Of the Pontiacs made in  the 2000s the only ones as see as maybe becoming future sought after "classics"...Would be the WS6 Firebirds...Firehawks...04 to 06 GTOs and the V8 powered G8s...A long shot would be the Supercharged Grand Prix...

Agee with the guys...The intense heat also changes the properties of the steel ...Making it brittle and hard to work with...Especially if it was cooled off really quickly  with a fire hose....

Saw this at the Charlotte Autofare today...1955 Pontiac Safari wagon...Wanted to get better pics...The other cars were parked too close to get some good side profile shots...

My dad was a mechanic at a Plymouth (Ed Owen's Chrysler Plymouth) dealership back in the late 60s early 70s...When my brother and I would go down the dealership with him on occasion on Saturday mornings..They had two Superbirds in the Showroom... one Yellow one...The other one was Petty Blue...The Yellow one was fully loaded with all the bells and whistles and had a Hemi engine with a Pistol grip 4 speed transmission...The Blue one was a stripper and  had 440 6 pack engine with a column shifted Torque Flight automatic transmission with steel wheels and dog dish hubcaps...Of course as Kids we thought they were the absolute Coolest cars we had ever seen ( remember it like it was yesterday)...They (the dealership) Could Not give them away and they sat on the lot for a very long time...Well into the 1971 model year before they were finally sold at a very deep discount...Just to get them off of the lot... They also had a New Hurst edition Chysler 300...

I too have never heard of/seen one with a 5.7/350 CID engine...

31 pontiac is correct  that the rear Aero coupe glass/trunk lid on the SS Monte Carlo is not the same...It is obviously different when the two cars are parked side by side next to each other...

I don't know about the Monte Carlo...But the Rear glass..Trunk lid...Rear interior panels and package trays...Front nose facia...ETC.. Evrything needed including the hardware was available (expensive) as a complete kit through certain Pontiac dealerships (mostly in the south east) to anyone who wanted to retrofit/upgrade to a 2+2 from a regular Grand Prix...As to whether or not if any of the kits were actually sold or not is anyone's guess...

Also 100% agree with Frosty...Rare can also mean...Unpopular which  translates to a very narrow market if you decide to sell or find nonexistent factory  replacement parts....As I personally found out a year ago When replacing the brakes on my car...

The silver car in the foreground is a Mid 1960s Chevrolet Corvette...As for the car in the backround...I'm going to take an educated guess....Judging by the contour of the rear fender and the shape of the side glass and the way the woodwork is laid out....I think that it is a late 1940s (1947/48/49)  Ford woodie station wagon...But I'm only about 85% sure of that...Without seeing the front of it...I can't be 100% sure...

Nice...Got to love the full sized Pontiacs... I'm with the fellow Pontiac guys...Changing the Timing set is Sound advise..Personally I like the nice pleasing Whine of an Intentionally Noisy timing set..

The Main reason OEM Timing gears are  covered in Nylon...Is for Gear/Chain Noise suppression...

The last Pontiac engine that I tore down was a 400 that was out of a 1978 Trans Am (was a stock type rebuild)....It still had the original factory nylon covered timing set...If I remember correctly (was a few years ago) the engine had jumped timing due to the Nylon coming off of the cam gear...and most of it wound up in the oil pan...That prompted the owner to just go ahead and rebuild the entire engine...

The biggest disadvantage of trying to make good power with a 350 Pontiac engine... Is the small bore size... The Small bores tend to shroud the flame and not allow the flame to swirl/spread in the combustion chambers as efficiently/completely...As it does in an engine with a larger bore and a shorter stroke...

Pontiac 350 engine = 3 7/8 inch bore...With a 3 3/4 inch stroke for a total of 354 (353.8) CID... The Small bore with the Long Stroke also limits the amount of RPMs that you can turn before the Piston Speed becomes an issue...Basically the 350 CID Pontiac is designed to make  good Low end Torque...Not high RPM horsepower...

For comparison a 350 CID Chevrolet engine has a 4.00 inch Bore with a 3.48 Stroke...(big bore..Short stroke)

350 CID Pontiac engine has a 3.875 inch bore with a 3.750  inch Stroke...(small bore..long stroke)

Even if you bore the Pontiac engine 0.60 over the bore will still be less than 4.00 inches...With the Long stroke...The Piston Speed Becomes a reliability issue...As the Piston itself has to travel significantly faster/further...Up and Down...Inside the bore at any given RPM Compared to an engine with a shorter stroke....At the same RPMs...

Then just need to find a SD card reader that will connect to your computer via USB on Amazon (or your favorite tech store) and can hopefully read them off of it.

5.7 inch Carrillo Rod...

From a  Bored and Stroked  (273 CID) Straight Six Cylinder Chevrolet Race engine...(Limited Sportsman) The car owner against my advice changed the rev limiter setting from 6800 RPMs to 7500 RPMs...Was a half a second faster then anything else on the track..(Ace Speedway Altamahaw NC) For a couple laps..Before the engine blew up in a Spectacular fireball dropping oil everywhere causing the car to slam head on into the concrete wall at speed... Destroying the Chassis as well as the engine...(fortunately No one hurt) After all the mayhem I found this connecting rod in the grandstand...We figured that the crankshaft must have basically Vaporized...Along with the Main bearing caps...As we never found any of it...When we shoveled what was left of the parts we could find off the ground...The only thing on the engine that was reusable was the Carburetor...Even the intake manifold had a quarter sized hole in the bottom of it...The exhaust header was  mangled from where the exploding engine parts hit it when the side of the block came apart...
