Are you looking for the correct numbers matching carb or one that will work?

For numbers matching, there were 3 quadrajet carbs in 1970 for a manual transmissions.

Yes I would like to find a matching numbers carb 274

Are you sure about a 274 carb? My information shows that a 7040274 is for a Pontiac 455 automatic - high altitude small valve car, not a GTO Judge Ram Air III 4-speed car.

You will almost certainly find one for sale at the Pontiac Nationals in Norwalk Ohio at the end of July or at the Trans Am Nationals in Fairborn Ohio at the end of August. Expect to pay top dollar for one though since you are looking for one of only 3 carb numbers especially since you have a manual transmission.

eBay is an option. Craigslist if you are lucky. Hemmings is another possible source.

You might also be able to find it at the GTOAA National Convention July 7-9 at the Chula Vista Resort, Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.

You might also be able to find it at the POCI National Convention July 11-15, at the Mohegan Sun resort in Uncasville, Connecticut.

I also understand that Charlotte Motor Speedway has a rather large swap meet in the fall.

Spring or Fall Carlisle in PA might have one, however, you will have to walk every row and every hill to find it.

I'm for sure there is a couple of them for sale on ebay but I'm unwilling to pay what they are asking

Let me guess.....$1000, $1500, $2000? I haven't looked on eBay per se but I am guessing that much.

Back in 2004 I blew the #8 connecting rod into 3 pieces of my '72 455. It scored the block, punch a hole on either side of the oil pan. At the time I went in search of date code correct parts. I found another '72 block (but not for a Lemans/GTO- it was for a full size car), I had the heads, intake but not the carb. I found a correct '72 carb at the 2004 GTO Nationals in Pontiac MI in the swap meet area. The guy wanted $1500 for it, said it was for '71 Judge with a 4-speed, or a '72 HO 4-speed. I told him he was going home with that carb at that price. He said anyone doing a concurs restoration of a Judge will gladly pay it. I saw the same guy 8 weeks later at the Trans Am Nationals in Dayton Ohio with same carb, he was down to $1200. I told him again he was going home with that carb. He did.

Bottom line for me - since my car was not numbers matching, I didn't need to worry about date coded correct parts. I just wanted something that looked correct. So I found an 'el cheapo quadrajet for $50 that is from a 71 full size but it runs fine.

I suspect you are not in the same boat as me. You are looking for the numbers correct carb. Depending on where you are at in your restoration, you maybe forced to pay the long dollar to get the numbers matching carb.

You also try calling Franks Pontiac Parts, they are a Pontiac dismantler in California.   https://frankspontiacparts.com/

Another large salvage yard to try is Desert Valley Auto Parts (DVAP) in Arizona. https://www.dvap.com/

I'm no t will to pay 6k for a crab. that's what there pricing them for on ebay.

I can totally appreciate that. Try getting yourself or someone you trust to the shows I mentioned or contact Franks or DVAP as starting points.

BTW - a 7040274 is $399 on eBay.

a 7040563 - $276

https://www.ebay.com/itm/184396776916?hash=item2aeee785d4:g:KZ0AAOSwr65fMaHe

I might be tempted to get the 7040563 - at least as an interim. It is correct for a California car.
