What would anyone recommend for cleaning /washing the 12yrs of grime /dust off of my 68 bonneville. I have hand washed and tried the power buffer but I cannot get down to the good green paint.

the paint is original enamel I beleive(correct me if im wrong).

IT would be helpful to post a picture or two of your ride. Why? First we love pictures. Second it would be helpful to see what we are dealing with.

You may need to restore your paint by having to re-cut and buff the paint with the proper materials and cutting and buffing pads. The top layer of the clear coat could be so contaminated that it needs to be removed. Again pictures help here. 

Have you tried to clay bar the car yet?

I have not tried the clay bar , but that is up next. I just got some meguire's deep clean wax but will do the clay bar first to remove contaminents
