Starter motor issue.

Featured Replies

Hi, I have an issue with the starter, I was setting the ignition timing so I was under the hood and someone was turning the key. When the engine fired I locked the distributer and gave a little revs for half a min. ish noticing a strange noise that I'd not herd before.( have had the car 14 years ). Then realized the starter was engaged, the person turning the key had kept it in start position throughout. Please can any one tell me what the issue is.? Nothing wrong with the wiring . When turning the key the ammeter is zeroing out so current is being sent.

Is the starter continuing to run once you let off the key?

I would guess you have a sticking bendix spring. A starter rebuild or a new solenoid is probably in order. Worst case scenario is the starter may need to be entirely replaced.

It could be in your ignition switch, but I agree the solenoid is likely the issue.
