Just go on ebaymotors and search cold air intake grand am or something. Make sure you click the one that says 3.1 and not the 4 cylinder 2.4 motor.
But yes, top swap is the first thing Id do. Meh, Id probably just swap the whole 3400 motor. The 3400 motor is pretty much the same as your 3100 but bigger, and badder.
Your "know how" kind of scares me so I would just stick with the cold air intake (CAI) idea for now. Other than that, opening the exhaust always helps. That doesnt mean put a fat Honda muffler on the back of your car. It means change out the whole system. Headers, high flow catalytic converter, and bigger piping all the way back to the muffler.
^By the way thats not something you can do yourself. You would probably have to take it to an exhaust shop. Well, at least for the catalytic converter, pipe and muffler. The headers Im sure only a performance shop would do that for you. Its not easy so until you KNOW cars, dont even think about it.

They dont do anything. You need an actual tuner. What I used was HPTuners. It actually can go into your PCM and change the tables/values/etc.
Im going to say it again so hopefully you dont waste your time thinking it might possibly work. The performance "chips" do NOTHING.
^^^You should have listened to that guy the first time.
He said you need an actual tuner. An example is HPTuners. It is tuning software. It costs a lot of money. If you have the pocket, you better have the know how. Because its not easy. Lots of numbers, lots of tables, lots of variables. Put a decimal in the wrong place you could break something, not know what you did wrong, and never find it.
There are some other tuners out there, but different software, same story. Dyno places use them to tune your car. Maybe look up your local dyno.
There is nothing you can just "plug in" and get more power. Even with tuning software, it has very little effect on nearly stock N/A engines.
If I were you Id worry more about bolt ons.

Ive read your statement at least 5 times and I need to know... What is your definition of a "tune up?"
I dont know if you are talking about tune ups in general, performance, or actually tuning.

I have a 98 GAGT... Never ran into a problem where it didnt give my year as an option...

Wow. Last I checked this is a public forum, and I am free to express and opinionate what I want. As does everyone else. With opinion comes agreements and disagreements. Its part of life, its going to happen.
I understand the "If you dont have something nice to say dont say anything at all" but it is you who just made some personal allegations kid. Not me.
I didnt get persoanl. I didnt pretty much call you a prick and tell you to get out of my thread simply because someone is trying to explain why they dont like the idea of a supercharer welded to their vehicle.

It's not like I can do anything else besides a turbo. and it's not going to look that bad once it's on and I'm done with it. and, on top of all that, when the van can keep up with your GP you won't be saying "man that's ghetto," it'll probably be "man that's fast."
Lets say I never heard of this and I ran into you at a car meet and you showed me under your hood. Im not one of those people that would say "Cool!"
Id probably think to myself wow. This guy was that desperate to make this van go fast he grabbed an old ass M62 and welded it to his intake manifold? And if you told me you bought the setup like that and just bolted it on it wouldnt make any difference to me.
You must mistake me for some kind of child because I could/would care less if your van was faster than any of my cars, with or without the supercharger. Sorry.
But good luck to you.

Alright Debbie Downer
Whos that?
I just think its ghetto to put an early 90s supercharger thats welded to a LIM on his van thats all. Plus I think it looks like ass. But meh whatever. If it does fit under the hood, no one will see it.
-
@Craig, Wow? What you mean... haha
Oh nothing nothing. I was just wondering when its done if I could come down and spray paint "ghetto" on the side of your ride.
that thing should be alright untuned............................
Yeah right. That thing is going to knock unless he finds a way to tune it.

Dude, no. An old M62 fabricated on a 3400 LIM? Really? I heard of this fab a few years ago done on a Cavalier and then some Oldsmobile.
The G6 is a nice ride. Please dont mess it up by forcing a 15 year old supercharger THROUGH your hood since it wont fit under it.

wow thats so clean and looks like the car came with it.
BRAVO!
Thats the idea. Have you guys seen the video clip of my car?
I made this way back cuz trying to make a 3800 exhaust sound good is like impossible. But I like mine and I wanted opinions at the time.

Change your spark plugs.

I dont care too much to reply to new people. But I love your car, NICE.

I hate to say it but most of those people that posted are right. That thing isnt even worth $100 to me. I got about 3 of them just sitting around.
If it was clean, and with fresh oil, Id guess selling it for $100 is fine. Hes better off posting it on craigslist for $50 bucks.

Its FWD? WEAK!

I dont believe in Grand Prixs.

Yes you can use the turbo kit on your block.
Bolts up, but stil needs customization. Also something for a tune.
-
i have thought about that, i'd like to stay N/A as the sunfire is my DD for now, but if i find a SC kit or a wrecked ss cobalt for cheap, im not gonna pass it up
Too bad it still wouldnt have everything you need.. Throttle body adapter can be a pain to get.
-
but now im also considering the LE5 bottom end swap
You make it sound like that prevents you from doing the manifold or something.
Ever thought of just swapping the L61 for an LE5?
Cant. Dont ask why.
-
Go for it. Yes you need a tune, yes you need injectors. I cant recall if you need an adapter plate for your tb. You should consider getting a bored out tb to try and match the LE5 manifold.
