Transmission or otherwise?

Featured Replies

My kid has a 95 Pontiac Grand Am SE with the 2.4L engine.  Whenever the car shifted to a higher gear, it would go to 2,000 RPM and shift.

However, now on the shift up, the engine gets to 2000 but suddenly races up to 3,000 RPM before making the shift.  Many years ago, before the kid, I had a 79 Camaro that acted the same way but replacing the transmission transducer fixed it? Any suggestions besides yank the transmission?

I don't know if it's mere coincidence --  the speedometer stopped working a few minutes before the shifting suddenly started getting squirrellly.

Thank you for any help you can offer.
