  1. So during last fall, on my last drive before putting her away for the winter, as I was turning left the wheel locked turning left, and could barley turned right. I finally got some free time recently to find out what had broken and to try to fix it. Here's what I found:

This guy, which is connected to the steering, was missing a bolt and small plate that the bolt held to.

So i guess at some point while I was driving, the bolt loosened and fell off. Don't know when, but the car was drving fine until I was headed home.

So what I'm in need of is another bolt like the one below, and need to find that plate as well. Any suggestions?

  2. It's been quite some time since an update, (as well as me being on the forums), but I have good news! My GTO is finally getting work done on it, and I should get it back 100% restored in about a month! I am madly excited. Its been years in the making for the day it gets restored, and that day is almost upon here!

Here are a few pics of some of the work:

  3. I'm probably not one to comment on the snow thing, living in Florida, but a lot of Goat owners do daily drive them in the snow but then a lot of them also have bought beaters for winter.

I was thinking about getting a beater in the coming months before winter. But you never know what the next day weather is gonna be in Montana. It snowed in July a few years back. Last winter lasted in extra 3 months. But the year before, it was pretty much dry. I'll just have to wait till winter hits.

Never seen one that color, has the newer rear vailence, 06 tails...seems stock otherwise...

It's called Cosmos Purple. Only available in 04, and they only made 700 with the purple. 377 are manual, and the other 323 are auto. The one I test drove was Purple, and I fell in love with the color.

whats the night and day between LS1 and 2? 50 hp? lol.

Don't really care that the LS2 has more hp. The one I drove had plenty of power. I can also find an 04 cheaper than an 05/06, and I can get it with that purple.

  4. I've been in the market for a new car lately, and haven't really found anything that stood out to me. Until I test drove an 04 GTO. The car was amazing. It was the first car that I got into that just felt right. Like the car just fit me perfectly. The thing that caught my eye was the Cosmos Purple paint. It was beautiful.

So, I would like some info about the car. Like if there are any major problems, etc. and if they make a good daily driver.

Here's one that I'm fairly interested in:

    http://portland.craigslist.org/grg/cto/2556338154.html

And one final question. This might be a dumb question, but how do you think it would fair on snow? With studded tires.

    Thanks!

  5. Whoa, hold on there, newbie.

First off, tell your bro that his Celica doesn't need premium. :willy_nilly: Second, the GTS models came with the 2ZZ-FE motor, different from the 1ZZ-FE/1ZZ-GE Toyota motors that came in Vibes/Corollas/Matrix models.

I've worked on numerous 99-05 Celicas, GT and GTS models. Nowhere on the car did it say use of premium fuel.

Well, I talked to my brother about it, and in his Celica is the 2ZZ-GE, and the first gen Vibe GT has the same 2ZZ-GE. He told me that he did a lot of research about the engine before he bought his Celica, and that he had to put in premium.

I know that the 1ZZ-FE that are in the base models takes regular, but I'm just asking about the 2ZZ.

  6. So I'm looking at purchasing a first gen Vibe mainly since gas is going up, and I need a car that gets better mpg then my current car. I'm not too sure if I want FWD or AWD, or maybe go for a GT. I would like to know if there are any major problems with the Vibe. And also what to look for in a good used one. I'm looking at spending at most 7k.

    Thanks.

  7. My dad gave me some advice on restoring a classic like yours if you build it as a "show car" you could end up never really enjoying the car. A lot of times these guys that build show cars put them on a trailer drive to the show unload them sit for awhile load them back up and go home. Every speck of dust or small detail drives them crazy. They don't enjoy the pure pleasure of a drive in the car (i have found myself sitting in my 73 critiquing the sill plate screws for some reason). So i think your idea of having a cruiser and possibly daily driver is great. Going to car shows to share your hard work with others is also a good way to encourage younger generations and other restorers into projects of their own and hopefully save some of these classics.

I just want a car that I can cruise in and be nice enough to take to shows. I would never put it in a trailer and go from show to show without driving it. Cars like these deserves to be driven.

Like there's this guy that lives about 2 blocks away, and has a really nice late 60's Plymouth, and I've never seen it at any of the car shows here. All he does is pull it out of his garage, washes it, then puts it back. That's just a waste to me.

  8. Nice and solid. It is a great starting point! Are you going to keep the craigers on or going to something different?

What direction are you going? Straight resto or something resto-mod?

I'm stuck between new Crager wheels or some American Racing Torq Thrust wheels.

I'm going for a straight resto. I just want a nice car to take to car shows and a nice cruiser. A nice weekend driver (even tho when it's done, I'm probably gonna be driving it everyday i can :().

  9. Thanks for all the compliments guys! :( And I'm very glad to be apart of FP! :(

I'll be updating my progress with pics during the upcoming months. I plan to hopefully have it done by June for a car show.

And to answer some of the questions, the car will be black w/ black interior, and I will be re-creating the pin stripping on it.
