Where did you take your Pontiac Today?

Not sure if this is a thread already; I looked around and couldn't seem to find a thread like this. So as the title says, where in the Pontiac did you go today? Take a photo of your car wherever you went with it today (or recently) and put it in here.

I'll start off, technically not today, but on Sunday, we took it out (first time in a week or so) down to the local canal and locks, parked, and took a walk down the locks. It was such a nice day, 23 degrees celsius, probably the last nice day of the season, at least around here.

Justa plain cruise, cars missed all the special shows and finally nice to be able to cruise it, perfect day and got in some work on the lil Bird and some yardwork before it gets too cold.

Had to pull Justa66 out to drag the Grand National motor to the front 1 more time. This time it sold. Will be so glad for the extra space. AND the GTO paint fund will rise to cover some of the expense of the the dang trans rebuild this summer. Neighbor down the street's tree was really showing off this afternoon so I grabbed a couple shots.

My wife and I drove her Catalina to dinner tonight with the top down. Great weather and we parked it in the back lot, well away from other vehicles.

Haven’t really gotten to drive the Indian much this year! Another wasted summer! To much sh@# to little time! But I pulled it out yesterday to swap places with the Caddy so I could start doing some prep work for my winter project on it.

Always amazes me how the small piece of cooper in the front arrowhead glistens of the sun.

That car is so badass......

As I have told you guys before, pictures don't do this car justice. Standing next to it at Norwalk last year, in the crappy/rainy/overcast weather, this thing still sparkled like the Hope Diamond. Last Indian has done a fantastic job with this car!

Drove it to dinner again last night and please remember that at least arguably up until now, this is my wife's car for car shows, etc. But for this trip, she drove it to the restaurant with me in the passenger seat. This was her first ever driving experience in it out in city traffic and she liked it quite well.

My days of driving it with her in the car may have just ended.

Rick

As long as she's happy Rick, that's really all that matters brother! cheers

I love the background in that first picture with Lucy. Where was that taken Frosty?

She really is beautiful bro. What did you use for the inlay in your shifter knob? It doesn't look like copper. Also, are those copper "rings" inlaid into your steering wheel?? Do you have a closer picture of the steering wheel?

went for a color tour couple days ago to our favorite covered bridges in Michigan. hard to time the color changes here.

Yes, those are cooper rings. The steering wheel started as a factory wheel. I stripped it down to the aluminum frame. Then cut the outer ring off. The four arms that are part of the main hub were cut off & shortened & rewelded back on. Then a 3/4 round piece of aluminum was rolled to 13” diameter & welded in place. This took the wheel from 15” to 13” diameter. The wood pieces are black walnut & red oak, with the small pieces in between being mahogany. The mahogany is separated from the other wood pieces by .030 cooper flat stock. The top & bottom black walnut pieces received solid cooper round stock to cover the attaching screws. While everything else received cooper tube with black walnut dowel. Then profiled with a file, sanded & polished! Yes you can polish wood similar to metal, to get a reflective finish without any clear coat of any kind.

The shift knob has an inlay of ultem, which is an engineered plastic. Pure ultem with no glass filler has a amber color.

So I have never heard of ultem but I do like the way it looks. I am however a huge fan of copper, and it is my favorite metal. I love the way you used the copper tubing. Outstanding work as always sir.

Ultem is a polyetherimide (PEI) it is used extensively throughout many industries for its high heat resistance, excellent chemical resistance, durability etc. there are many variations of it all having different additives that change its characteristics as well as the color, but in its pure, Ultem formulation it’s amber. Very similar to the old school amber glass or plastic Pontiac would use for some of their Indian head emblems among other emblems.

Oh, I forgot, congratulations on the house Wrongway! Glade to see you landed on feet. I know you have work ahead of you, but it’s yours! No more fixing something Justa have someone else reap the reward.

Well its very interesting and I will be reading up on it.

Thank you, it is nice doing things and not having to ask permission or hoping nobody notices, like when I added 220V to the old garage.
