  1. evening all..hope all of you are well!

having some emission problems with Ruby..

Anyone have problems with "Evap" system causing check engine light to keep coming on?? replaced gas cap twice, had numerous 'smoke' tests, the dealership fixed a cracked canister behind gas tank, car was tied up for 5 days, had the car back 29 hours, and dang light came back on?? going back to garage in morning..most frustrating..

    thanks my friends!

The throttle response gained from the CAI is a little bit noticeable, but the fun factor is high with the intake sound at WOT. They're loud, haha.

But there's a big intake resonator in the wheel well underneath the main part of the airbox. Don't be afraid to yank that bitch out.

cool.. nothing beats trying to yank that bitch out!! HAHA!! :dancingpontiac: :dancingpontiac:

  3. Thanks TigerGrandAmGT! it has 93K original miles and I am the 3rd owner over all, 2 family member owner.....My brother inlaw bought it in 97 from the original owner with just 14K on the odometer, he drove it a lot during the summer months to work etc.....he drove his pick up thru the winter months. He decided to get a Harley an asked if I wanted it......so I bought it.

good choice!! i miss my Bird..but not the insurance..it was killing me here in Mass...settled for a Grand Am GT Coupe..still love my Pontiacs! Good Luck with your mods!

  4. Maybe the first time you do it but after you learn where all the push pins and bolts are it is a piece of cake.

And Considering the time of the year grab snows for the stock rims and then spring time get some nicer summer tires for the aftermarket rims.

Previously stated just stick with light modding of this car. It gets expensive quick and the results are sub par when you could just buy a v8 F-body and drop a little $$ in and run 1 second faster.

I on the other hand caught the modding bug and learned on this car and I must complete this car but I love it so I think every penny I'm spending on it is worth it. I wouldn't ever think of getting rid of it.

Edit: oh and welcome fellow GAGT onwer!!

    thanks Young gun..

Probably gonna stick to the tires\wheels right now, due to the hard winters that New England offers up to us each winter. I just can't wait till Spring to start getting some goodies for her. I just ordered the CAI from ebay. My brother in law has a decent garage that I can use, and its heated, so he will help me set that up, and go from there!

Thanks for the welcome to the GAGT club!

  5. THANK YOU! chaosweaveR! I am sorry to admit that I need such a basic, elementary explanation, but that is exactly what I needed....once I've been through it once or twice it usually sticks.......Thanks Ghost for your input as well. I will get to work on modifing my sig ASAP but first......Today I just figured out I can email a photo from my phone directly to my photobucket album!!! :bacon: So in celebration of this apiphany, here is a picture of the Bird, sporting the WS6 Ram AIr hood....

Now how's this for a picture? Maybe this would be a good garage picture?

awesome Firebird! Well done!! I had a 1995 Black Formula...yours looks way better then mine did!

Honestly, the CAI setups on eBay work fine, just replace the lame filters they come with, with a K&N cone filter. You'll need to get into the left front wheel well to install the third piece of the intake setup.

cool..is it time consuming to do?? or just a pain in the butt to get into wheel well?

  7. ' timestamp='1354070962' post='76889']

Get a CAI, the stock airbox is restrictive and junk. Getting a K&N drop in is a waste of cash.

Tires? For the stockers just stick with a good set of all seasons. Toyo Extensa HPs are great for the money. Save the sticky, performance tires for an aftermarket set of wheels.

thanks Chaos...the CAI a good setup?

The only supercharger kits available (good ones) are the Eaton kits, and that's if somebody sells their old kit.

If you really want to squeeze power from the LA1, you need to go turbo. Either way, you'll need big pockets and a lot of patience and time. On average, I've seen +$6000 dumped into turbo builds, you'll see around 300-330 WHP if done right, which still isn't a lot.

Only one Grand Am has cracked the 12's, and that was a turbo LD9 powered SE coupe. (The 2.4L DOHC I4 engine in the 99-01 GASE models) that car made around 430 WHP, and A LOT of time and money invested.

My honest opinion, intake, exhaust, suspension, brakes and wheels are better investments for these cars.

Thanks for the tip Chaos! I was thinking along the lines of tires/exhaust/KN filter setup....pockets are not too deep at the moment...besides, she only has 69,600 miles on the mill right now...barely broken in....
