Prudent to buy 2004 Pontiac Grand AM

Hi,

 I am new to the Forum and I have a question about buying a 2004 Grand AM with about 57,000 miles on it from a local used car dealer.  It is a beautiful car, but I have concerns about the purchase.  Is it prudent to purchase this car?  My main concern is availability of parts.  The car will be an everyday driver and I live in the Northeast, so snow and salt will be a factor in the winter months.  If anyone is able to give any guidance on this matter; it will be greatly appreciated.  I grew up driving Pontiacs and still love the way they look.  Thank you.  I apologize if this Post is in the wrong Thread.

First off,

Are you looking to buy this because you just want the car or are the usual concerns of money weighed in as well? If you're just looking for a Pontiac, you may be able to get a newer G6 or G5 (cars in the Grand Am's class) in better condition. 

Parts though are probably in abundant for a Grand Am as they were pretty popular in their generation (I still see them on the roads in good numbers). Just goes with anything that is purchasing a 12 year old car for a daily driver.

welcome, there is a huge aftermarket for those cars. As far as snow I always suggest (I do it on all my cars) that you take it to line-x and have them spray the undercarriage. It is a rubbery substance that hardens. It will add weight to the car but to help the car last longer it is worth it.
