This is my fender tag and I am trying to better understand what exactly I have. It looks like I have a 63 Grand Prix economy model that is equipped with a lot of options, and a 389 with a two barrel carburetor.

I am in way over my head and have just recently replaced the entire frame now we have come to realize the car is not going into reverse, it looks like the lockout is not engaging and the shifter is not going down into the reverse gear. I’m trying to determine if this is a linkage issue or is my transmission bad?

And this is part of the reason I have to find what I have, so does defender tag. Tell me exactly which transmission is in the car? Are there any adjustments to the linkage? It might allow the car to go into reverse, without which I’ll be selling the car, lol!

Thank you very much.

Welcome Ralph, I'm really surprised nobody commented on your post buddy. So as far as I know that tag won't help identify your trans. Your VIN# might if the car is original. But the best way I personally know is to look at the trans pan or take a picture of it and post it on here. Some of these guys probably know an easier or better way to identify your trans but that's how I do it. Also, pictures help bro. Good luck.

Yes, definitely take a picture of the fluid pan, if equipped, and we can tell you what you have. Manual transmission or an automatic, maybe a Powerglide?

Rick
