New Young Guy and his '69 LeMans

Hey guys I'm Nathan; first time Pontiac "owner" since this past May and it is also believe it or not, my first car (in a way). It is a 1969 Pontiac LeMans 2-door hardtop that we bought already restored. It has the original 350 engine (rebuilt of course), almost all-original black morrokide interior, save for a re-upholstered front bench seat and new dash. It was re-painted the original blue colour (might not be exact but pretty close). However during the restoration process, both front and rear bumpers were painted body colour, though we are working on getting at least the rear re-chromed or a getting new aftermarket chrome bumper. It also has a white stripe down each side denoting it as a "Sprint" though I'm sure all of us know that came as part of the PMD OHC 6 engine option package. On our car the stripes were put on in order to break up the "too blue" theme, though we are planning on changing them since the car isn't an actual Sprint. But to be honest if I were to get a 6-cylinder car sometime down the road it would have to be a Pontiac with the OHC 6. Beautiful engine. Our car is believed to have originated from Montana (seller wasn't too sure). Unfortunate insurance regulations for young people driving classic machinery meant I couldn't even drive it this year becuase I hadn't a full graduated lisence yet. But now I do so we'll get that sorted out over the winter so I can drive it next year.

I must admit I like the car a lot, and Pontiacs in general are a favourite brand of mine. I like the full-sizers, like Catalinas, Bonnevilles, particularly any from'59-'73. And I would be pleased to be a part of a Pontiac community, talking with like-minded Pontiac brethren and seeing what other cool Pontiacs you guys drive.

Insurance companies often have restrictions or covenants. For example, my classic car insurance restricts the age of who can drive to 25 and older. While Violet, Black Beauty, and Lucy are considered muscle or pony cars, the Roadmonster is definitely not. I still have that restriction. That’s the price I pay for cheap collector car insurance,

So in Lemans69’s case, this maybe an insurance restriction or provincial law.

Thanks for explaining this further; it is one of the insurance company's restrictions. I had to actually sign a form exluding me from the insurance, which I was quite hesitant to do. The car is under one of my parent's names but even to be an occasional driver was frowned upon by the insurance company. But that was because I hadn't my full lisence yet so over winter we'll get it sorted one way or another. I'm looking forward to driving it once all this snow melts.

I think it really suxs how insurance company’s do that !!!

Why can’t they justA slap a high excesses on a policy like they used to for under 25 ?

Beautiful car you have! welcome to the site.

It could worse. Back when these cars were new, car insurance premiums for a new GTO or some other premium pony or muscle car could be as much or exceed the monthly car paymennt - especially for someone 25 or younger. They were and probably still are considered high risk drivers.

You certainly can see the insurance companies’ logic, trying to minimize risk and potential payouts caused by us (us old guys i mean) immature hooligans. Justa some of us never grew up…..

….and remember boys and girls, growing old is mandatory, up is optional!!!!!willy_nilly

….and I still refuse to act my age too. To be fair, i have never been this age before, so I am not certain how I am supposed to act, but my wife seems to know. Justa ask her! leghump
