roller pilot bearing for 455 pontiac

I want to put a roller pilot bearing in a 74? 455, the engine had a automatic before I got it. The crank has 3 bores in the end of it. The first has a bore of 1.705, the second has a bore of 1.102. Tis is the bore I want to put the roller bearing into.The third bore will put the bearing too far back for the input pilot.

If you could post a Detailed pic or two...So I can see what you have...It would helpful...Then we can go from there...I will try to respond in a fairly short order...

Do know you what kind of Pontiac the engine come out of...??

The reason I'm asking is because... Alot of Pontiac 400 or 455 CID engines Do Not have a Crankshaft that is factory machined for the pilot bushing/bearing...Most Pontiac's were equipped with Automatic transmissions...Usually (But Not Always) Unless the engine was destined to be installed in a 4 speed Trans Am/GTO...Or some other model with an Optional manual trans...It is very highly possible that the crank may not be fully machined for a pilot bushing/bearing...That is something to be aware of...

With that being said...

The Pilot bushing/bearing is installed in the second/middle bore of the crank and should line up flush with the bottom of the first bore hole...

KM, thank you for the reply, that is what I am thinking. I put a bronze bushing in the third bore and the pilot shaft was short of the bushing. I want to use a roller bearing anyway so I will look for a roller with a OD of 1.102. thanks. I would take a pic but I have the engine on the assembly stand right now, I will take a pic when it coms off but it sounds like you have an idea what crank I have.😀
