I am currently looking at rebuilding my 56 pontiac 316 engine.

I am looking at inserting a new cam to assist in getting a bit more out if the engine. It runs the stock inlet and 4 bbl.  Not after high performance, just more of a spec up from stock.

Looking for suggestions

Wow - that's nice. Wait until Kiwi (kiwiboni64) sees this. He's in Taupo and has Pontiacs coming out of his ears.

Welcome to the site.  Awesome combo with the trailer.

Welcome to the site. Great looking '56 you have there, and the combo look great together. I can't answer your question about more power, as mine is LS engined, but I'm sure somebody else will respond.

Welcome Lindsay :dancingpontiac:

Great to see another kiwi on the fp site !!! where in godsone are you ? i havent seen your 56 around :)

i really dont have any good info on your motor, hopefully one of our state side friends will be able to help,

The  last pontiac motor i know about being rebuilt was my good mates 68 bonni 400 ... he forked out 5 k in machining and another 5 k in parts justA to build a stock motor !

And really if your going down the path of a cam/lifters, you really should do valve springs, and probly a good 3 angle valve job with a clean up of the ports and runners.

So what you really need is to make freinds with a machinest who can come up with a good recipe.

Ah I  justa Clicked Morrinsonville ! i have seen your 56 !

Yes ... the mighty Waikato.  I had a 400 built to place in the car.  Fully rebuilt, but I changed my mind and on sold it.  I decided to keep it stock as can but just tickle the motor up ti get a bit more personality into it.

Great to know there is more Kiwis on the site.

Uh...say what? Is that supposed to be 'swiney?' Sounds like a pig farmer - is that right? Jeez, I hope so. I'm not up on farm animal etiquette.

Here are a couple of thoughts as far as cam choices.

First one is a stock-like street cam

https://www.summitracing.com/search/part-type/camshaft-kits/make/pontiac/engine-size/5-2l-316/engine-type/v8?N=camshaft-use%3Astreet

The second one is a street/towing profile cam

https://www.summitracing.com/search/part-type/camshaft-kits/make/pontiac/engine-size/5-2l-316/engine-type/v8?N=camshaft-use%3Astreet-towing

COMP Cams and Crower have cams for the 316.

I would be chuffed to revisit UnZud again - what a magnificent place. There'll be no dragging of the Boss - she'll be happy to tag along.
