This old write up will give you an idea of what you'll need to do to get to the gauge pod.

    https://www.hotrod.com/articles/hppp-0604-pontiac-dash-restoration/

Lots of space is key, I always remove the driver side seat. Then remove the two screws on the column trim and then the two bolts from the column strap. This will allow you to slightly lower the column to get the bezel out. Lots of other things to do before hand but these few items make this major task a little bit easier.

ok will check it out ...thank you very much !!! cheers

Take a look at the Waterdown swap meet that is usually in the spring and fall.  They usually have some good used units there and most of the guys are not unreasonably priced.  Installing it is just follow the instructions.  I put a light truck mega shifter in my 79 GMC and it took me about 3 hours to do total with coffee.

hey how are ya notallthere...do you know BLISTER ??? that guy who shows up when the work is all done .....lmao ...yes i go there all the time ...just a new project i was thinking for SCARLIT ... i,ve been getting horny , the last month since i pit her away .... come spring she,ll be all decked out with her new looks :) ...here about the newfie, who dropped his wife off at the beauty parlour on MONDAY & asked what time he should come back and pick her up ? and the owner says how about FRIDAY at noon ...so he goes back on FRIDAY to get her and the owner say,s can ya give me a couple more days ....hahahhahaha

Are you talking about something like a B&M shifter replacement?

hey frosty..how are ya...anything really as long as it has a t-handle and a little bend in the arm ... the original shifter arm & button push just doesn,t do it for me ..lol..just looks plain ....something that that would just replace the stock arm and button handle ...more racier and meaner ...just like the 468 stroker in her ....lol..

scarlit, I found mine on Craigslist for $300 with console included. Some of the restoration Catalogs sell them new for @$500.

Best thing to do is order free catalogs from Ames Performance, National Parts Depot, and Original Parts Group INC. I think Year One charges $7 for its catalog but gives you the catalog money back on your first purchase.

a quick photo of my his/hers with the Hurst T handle in place.

To a curved hurst arm with a t-handle, is it possible to just change the handle ? all i,m looking for is the look ...apoligize for being a pain...keep hitting walls while looking for one ... at least i have about 6 months before i get her back out of storage ...hahahahaha ...time to bring the skates out ...cheers

I too changed my stock 1970 console shifter and added a His/Hers Dualgate with a polished HURST T handle. I might have to look in to that pistol grip set up though, thats badass!!

    Manual or automatic?

I converted my stock Pontiac automatic shifter in my '72 LeMans over to a Hurst His/Hers Dual Gate shifter (from a '68 GTO).  After staring at the plain stock small black shifter ball after awhile, I purchased a Hurst billet pistol grip for it. This winter I plan to paint the lettering.

The console cover plate is autographed by Doc Watson and Linda Vaughan of Hurst shifter fame.
