  • Description: To mark the final model year of the Firebird, General Motors produced this Collector Edition Trans Am (“CETA”). Production was limited to just 2390 units, of which this is #314 [only 839 with manual gearbox plus T-tops - this is #102].

This vehicle was manufactured October 1st 2001 at the General Motors plant in St. Therese, Quebec, Canada with the top “Trans Am” trim level and mechanical specifications, then on October 27th 2001 was sent to American Specialty Cars in Warren, nr Detroit, Michigan to add both the WS6 Performance Package and the Collector Edition Trans Am (“CETA”) upgrades. This vehicle was first registered in Miami on January 1st 2002 and imported to the UK on July 1st 2015.

The WS6 Performance Package includes upgraded suspension, brakes, steering, tyres, exhaust and engine components (see red text below for details of WS6 specification); the CETA upgrades include exterior/interior trim, technical features and helical limited-slip differential (LSD; see blue text below for CETA specification).

Engine: Naturally-aspirated functional Ram Air with LS6 (Corvette) intake manifold and sequential multi-port fuel injection (MFI) induction system (the WS6 option increases the size of fuel injectors from 28.8 - 36.0 lb/h), feeding an LS1 motor (5.7 L; V8 x 3.90” cylinder bore x 3.62” stroke = 346 ci) with a 10.1:1 compression ratio, overhead valvetrain (2 valves per cylinder) and all-aluminium block, head and driveshaft (from 2001 the WS6 option adds billet-steel cam-shaft and mass air flow [MAF] sensor, with an upgraded exhaust manifold). This vehicle also has SLP loudmouth cat-back exhaust pipes added, with air intake resonator- and injector-delete, plus engine remapping to increase power to at least 380 bhp at 5200 rpm or 554 Nm (409 ft-lb) of torque at 4000 rpm. Stock 0-60 mph <5 s and ¼ mile time <13 s (107 mph).

Transmission: Tremec (Borg Warner) T56 6-speed manual gearbox with Hurst short-throw shift linkage (the WS6 option adds firmer transmission mount to reduce drivetrain movement). Gear ratios are 2.66, 1.78, 1.30, 1.00, 0.74 & 0.50 to 1, with a 3.42:1 rear axle ratio (the CETA model upgrades the standard Positrac clutch-type LSD to a Torsen helical gear-type LSD).

Brakes: Power-assisted vented discs all-round (the WS6 option increases the rotor diameter from 11.89 - 12.00”), with 4-wheel additional braking system (ABS), dual-piston front callipers and a Bosch solenoid-based anti-lock system (the CETA model includes exclusive black callipers, with all-speed electronic traction control system [TCS] included here as an option).

Suspension: Short-/long-arm coil-over monotube gas-charged shock absorbers [front]; Salisbury live rear axle with torque arm and Panhard rod (track bar), trailing arm, coil springs and monotube shock absorbers [rear]. The WS6 option adds stiffer springs, shocks and bushings, with front and rear swaybars enlarged from 1.18” and 0.75” to 1.26” and 0.83”, respectively. This vehicle also has added subframe connectors.

Steering and wheels: Rack and pinion power steering (the WS6 option adds a cooler and reduces the steering box ratio from 14.0:1 - 12.7:1 for more responsive handling). The WS6 option increases the standard Trans Am wheel diameter and tyre width from 16” [P245/50ZR16] up to 17” [P275/40ZR17], this vehicle is now running 18” Japan Racing SL03 Super Light Series wheels in matt black with P295/35ZR18 Bridgestone Potenza radial tyres.

Exterior: Retractable quad headlights with LED sidelights. For the final 2002 model year, the WS6 option adds power mirrors and retracting radio antenna as standard. The CETA model comes in an exclusive design of Collector Yellow paintwork with contrasting black roof/window treatment and wing mirrors, custom stripes and extensive black trim details with CETA badging. Most body panels are made of fiberglass and SMC polymer composite, making for the lightest ever Firebird at a curb weight of 1490 kg (3284 lb) – including a full 63.6 L (16.8 gal) fuel tank.

Interior: Ebony Prado black leather seating with perforated inserts. The WS6 option includes a Monsoon 10-speaker audio system with subwoofers. Standard options for the CETA model also include exclusive embroidered upholstery, cruise control, internal hatch-release switches, power windows, central locking and six-way electronic seat adjustment.
