Bentley Bentayga Fly Fishing by Mulliner

-

Bentley’s in-house Barris Kustom analogue, Mulliner, has found a new niche to cater to now that its parent offers an off-roader: fishermen. And when we say “fishermen,” we are not talking about the hard-working, net-hauling, trawler-repairing, seafaring hard boys who leave port before dawn. We’re discussing the gentleman angler who enjoys a spot of fly fishing on a picturesque river. The kind of man who prefers to do his adventuring in luxury’s fair lap, rather than from the bench seat of a scratch ’n’ dent GMT400 pickup. The result? The Bentley Bentayga Fly Fishing by Mulliner.

But exactly how do the masters at Mulliner prepare a Bentayga for the pursuit of riverine piscenes? For starters, up to four rods can be carried in leather-trimmed tubes which store under the rear parcel shelf. Fishing nets get their own matching leather bags, which have their own carpet-tripped storage pocket built into the side of the rear cargo area. Just wait. It gets fancier.

The piece de fishstance consists of three matched, leather-trimmed boxes to handle the potentially-messy realities of sustenance, tackle, and damp-wader storage. The last of which is obviously waterproof, so’s not to get stream gunk all over the interior of your very expensive truck. The tackle box features a drawer — finished in burl walnut veneer, natch — equipped with a fly-tying vise and tools, plus a presumably curated selection of cotton, hooks, and feathers. Below that are three billet-aluminum reel cases trimmed with Saddle leather with Linen cross-sitching. The refreshment box—essentially a very fancy version of your old Igloo Playmate—gets a Linen leather-trimmed interior and features three metal flasks and a set of china. The quilted-leather top means it can double as a seat if so desired.

And just in case the folks down at the boat ramp weren’t entirely sure just how special an angler you are, this particular Bentayga is the first car Mulliner has built with downward-facing welcome lights in the bottom of the doors, which project both the Bentley and Mulliner logos on the ground. After all, you wouldn’t want the local schmoes to think you bought your fishing vest off the rack, would you?
