Car and Driver: X-citing News: BMW Releases Pricing for 2017 Crossovers

2015 BMW X6 M

-

We know you’ve been sitting on pins and needles waiting for BMW to price its 2017 model line of crossover SUVs, or as BMW likes to call them, Sports Activity Vehicles. Well guess what? Pricing for the 2017 BMW X1, X3, X4, X5, and X6 is finally here.

-

Starting with the recently redesigned BMW X1, the German brand adds a front-wheel-drive sDrive28i trim to the subcompact crossover’s lineup. Blasphemous as it may be, the new model brings the X1’s base price down to $33,795, or $2000 less than last year’s least-expensive X1. Meanwhile, the all-wheel-drive X1 xDrive28i’s price remains unchanged at $35,795.

-

Likewise, all four-cylinder—gasoline and diesel—2017 BMW X3 trims see no change to their base prices; however, the starting figure for the six-cylinder 2017 X3 xDrive35i swells by $850, as its list of standard features now includes a proximity key, seats with adjustable lumbar support, and a year’s subscription to SiriusXM satellite radio. Consumers interested in the visually pleasing, but cargo-capacity-challenged 2017 BMW X4 are now limited to choosing between two models: the four-cylinder xDrive28i and the performance-oriented M40i, as the mid-level xDrive35i has driven off to the big parking garage in the sky.

-

With the exception of the 2017 BMW X5 xDrive40e plug-in hybrid, all other X5 models see their base prices increase for the new year. The base price of gas-powered sDrive35i, xDrive35i, and xDrive50i trims are up $800, and the diesel xDrive35d costs a full $1600 more than last year. The 2017 X5‘s price increase doesn’t come without its benefits, though, as the mid-size crossover SUV now comes equipped with the latest iDrive operating system and its infotainment screen adds touchscreen functionality. Those same features, along with a new standard 19-inch wheel design, are also added to the sleek 2017 BMW X6. Available in sDrive35i, xDrive35i, and xDrive50i trims, the fastback SUV’s base price increases by $800 across the line.

Finally, the high-performance BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M enter the new model year with no changes to their base tariffs ($99,795 and $103,195, respectively), but include the latest iDrive operating system and touchscreen infotainment system found in their non-M siblings.
