-This content is part of Destination Adventure.-With storm clouds looming, it was time to make it to camp.-Out here in a truck with everything you need and nothing you don’t, it is hard to believe you are within 150 miles of the 23 million people in Southern California.-The old truck may not go fast, it may not be the most capable, but it sure is one of the most classic designs to ever roll on four wheels. If you don’t look back at least once as you’re walking away, you should probably sell it.-Setting up camp in the rain is never any fun, but setting up camp in the rain after the sun has gone down is worse.-After camp was set up, we ducked into a cave to avoid hunkering down in our tents.-After four hours, it was time to check on the conditions outside.-Maybe putting the top on the old truck would have been a good idea.-Luckily, aluminum doesn’t rust.-After a long night in the damp cold, getting the coffee going is a top priority.-With more dark clouds cresting the ridge line, it was time to plan an escape out of the Mojave.-El Niño seems to have won again. It may not rain a lot in the desert, but when it does, it comes down in sheets.-The roads across the Mojave National Preserve wait for exploration. I-15 will be full of the latest in technology, zipping people from the Vegas Strip to the Santa Monica pier, but just over a ridge to the south you can be all alone with decades-old machinery enjoying the solitude of the desert.--I5QrN1BucIo
