Most definately NOT a fan of PETA, but this is a good message.

It's worth mention that this was a new car. I've tried the same thing with my old '85 and come up with very different results. Less than 10C difference in full sunlight at noon for an hour. Now 10C more than outside isn't pleasant by any means ... but it's a long way from lethal too.  My '89 Mitsubishi Mirage (Dodge Colt) was another story entirely. I put a thermometer on the dash after one time nearly losing skin to the hot vinyl seats. 140F was common, and once pegging at over 160F.  A travel mug of tea left in the wife's 2005 Malibu was still as hot as fresh after hours in the cup holder while we shopped.
