I will soon be getting an overkill tune and was wondering if you guys think it would even be worth getting a shift kit with what the upgrade will do to the shift points? Will it even make that much of a difference to put a kit in?

Normally I would endorse a shift kit. A shift kit will add/change/remove check balls, and change certain valve body springs in order to change internal transmission fluid pressure to order in change the shift points, usually for a firmer 1-2 and 2-3 up/down shift.

In this case, I am would call Overkill Motorsports first. Their literature talks about changing shift points programmatically. My concern would be the mechanical shift kit changes working against the electronic shift points of the tune thus working to destroy your transmission prematurely. So do yourself a favor and see what they recommend. They may have a kit that works in concert with their tune.

As I often tell people on this forum, do your homework.

All a shift kit is going to do is firm up the shifts and allow more clamping force on the clutches. It should not affect the shift points as that will be computer controlled. Tho your weak point will now be your half shafts.

I agree with you my friend, but it does it by changing the transmissions fluid pressure through the valve body (versus stock and what the computer is expecting it to do). I think an ill-timed shift could be a problem long-term - hence my advice - consulting with Overkill first.
