Where to find Heavy Duty front coil springs.

My 61-drag race car has a bit of a "rake"

Race cars of that era typically had a nose high stance.

The theory being that off the line no energy was expended lifting the front end up. Also, it was purported to slightly shift to the back a smidgen of the cars weight.

My 61 Impala back in the day was fitted with GM springs called twenty-two fifties (22/50) From a 1958 Nomad station wagon 348 cid loaded with every option in the book.

So FORUM Gurus, where to source these today ??

I would contact Eaton Detroit Spring. Tell them what you are looking for. They offer OE replacements on their website. You are looking for a custom spring. They have an online form requesting a custom leaf or coil spring too.

I agree with Frosty, Eaton spring was the original spring supplier for most of GM, Ford, & Chrysler models for over 70 years. They still have all the original blue prints on file, and can also make custom orders. I have used them in the past with very good results. They are a bit more expensive than the cheapest options out there. But the quality and just only having to do the front springs 1 time to get the desired results was worth it IMO.

FINALLY got the 2 inch rise front end springs installed. The local alignment shop declared that they are impossible to install (extra loop) in the coils. After dicking around with it for 4 hours they wanted to charge me for LABOR.

Master Mechanic at Wilson's Speed Shop got them installed, badly bruised his arm though- when one of them slipped free of the A Frame.

Thanks so much! Who sells these?

You can get a spring compressor tool at most tool supply companies like Harbor Frieght, auto parts stores like Auto Zone, NAPA, or O’Reilly’s. Performance catalogs like Jegs or Summit Racing carry them too. Some home improvement stores like Home Depot and Lowe’s may also carry them since they have tool sections.
