Hi all. My 65 Le Mans restomod is having fuel issues. I’m running a stock 350 w Sniper II. It’s been having this random “coughing” issue which we’ve looked at extensively but failed to correct. This morning (on the way to a meet of course) it just quit. Still had power. All new tank, lines, etc. TBI is about a year old. Tough to restart but did and limped home. Any troubleshooting suggestions appreciated.

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? Do you have enough pressure? Normal 5-7lbs pressure from a stock pump won't cut it. Sounds more like electrical. What kind of ignition system are you using? Weak Coil would produce the probs you have.

Sniper II EFI? You might try re-routing your Sniper power and signal wires away from any possible sources of ignition electronic noise - spark plug wires, etc. As Steve mentions above, a look at your fuel pressures would be useful.

As mentioned you need to know fuel pressure. That said, if you have real time fuel pressure monitoring when it is acting as you described it may answer that question. Additionally if you have a syringe or the facsimile of one, the next time it dies, fill the syringe with fuel, squirt it into the manifold. If it starts right up; it's definitely fuel.

Brilliant, the syringe technique. Filling it with a little two stroke 40-to-1 fuel to oil the piston rings is even better. I keep some "Explosion In A Can" starting fluid ether around but it's very tough on the cylinder wall oil film. Used sparingly, it's a fabulous diagnostic tool for trouble like this.

As stated above, fuel pressure monitoring is key to helping diagnosis your issue. Your Sniper II requires 60 PSI, so you definitely need high fuel pressure and not rely on the stock fuel pump.
