CARB/EO Approved Cold Air Intake for LS4 on a Grand Prix 08?

Featured Replies

Howdy y'all,

I am wanting to improve the performance of my 08 Grand Prix GXP, but am finding myself a bit limited thanks to its unique front-wheel drive setup, despite being an LS engine.

One easy mod that I have heard moderately improves performance is a cold air intake, but I am in a bit of a rut with that in terms of legality. Unfortunately, I live in Utah wherein we abide by California's CARB laws/regulations, meaning any aftermarket part I put on my vehicle requires CARB approval.

I have tried searching for something that may work but keep coming up empty. Best option appeared to be a K&N intake, but it isn't CARB approved.

Sure, I could just do some swappy swap or whatnot before taking her to get checked, but I'm too poor to get caught breaking the law, so I can't take any chances, even if I disagree with the law in question.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

How close is Utah about the particulars? I ask because I know there are CARB legal cold air intakes for Pontiac G8s with an LS motors. Could you buy a G8 CAI and adapt the hose/ducting to fit your GP and use that CARB/EO number? Just curious. Finding a CAI for an LS4 is tough. I am not sure one exists for any of the LS4 family of cars.

I also know that there are several '08 GP specific CAI's but are not CARB compliant.

Otherwise, my suggestion would be to keep your stock intake and install a hi-flow air filter like a K&N or Spectrum. I know that this is your least favorite option.
