Bench to bucket

Featured Replies

Been a while... But apart from a pile of boxes of parts in the garage.. not much more progress on 'Lucky'.

But I do have a question. Lucky (62 Bonneville) currently has a bench seat, managed to find a pair 63 Grand Prix buckets for a good price, so took a leap. So question is will they fit, they look the same but as the Bonneville buckets I have found pictures of but with bigger trans tunnel am I going to struggle?

Plus some more pics of 'Lucky'

Has your wife left you yet? Those buckets aren't in the lounge room, are they? Coz if they are, it's 'but Honey, hang on - I'll put them straight in the garage.' Yeah, along with your bed.

I apologise for not adding any constructive information, coz I have no idea but a simple fabricated mount of some sort shouldn't be too hard to cobble together.

OPGI has the brackets that you need to convert from a bench seat to bucket seats. For $100, these fit 61-64 Catalina, Bonneville and Grand Prix. So to answer your question, they will fit with these bench-to-bucket conversion brackets.

Driver's is power, no not yet, found a local upholstery guy, who is gonna strip them down paint the frame and recover them and the rear bench. Then I will tackle the motor and see if it works. Yeah I was really pleased I found them.

Guy is going to sell me the matching material so I can try my hand at the door cards and a custom centre console.

I know what you mean, but I looked into sewing machines... And seemed a lot of money for me to screw up the seat covers... So I decided it is better to get a professional to do that bit, and I would attempt the rest, because I would like to be able to say I had a big hand in the interior restoration as well as the outside.

Crazy fact my great grandfather was considered one of the best trimmers in London and actually trimmed Queen Victoria's funeral carriage.... Don't think it is an inherited skill, unfortunately :)

I am not made of money either but there are somethings I choose to do and be good at, and others I choose not to be good at and not spend the money attempting to learn. It's like learning to be a scratch golfer. I got no need or use to be a really, really good golfer. So why spend the time and money on it? Same thing with upholstery in my book.

You can buy the covers and reupholster yourself.   Bought mine from OPGI.  They did not come out bad.  You mentioned trying your doorpads and center console.  Fairly easy if you take your time.      Never said to go buy a sewing machine and start from scratch. :willy_nilly:  Waay past my pay scale.

I will agree with Justa on this one. I would attempt to re-do the upholestry with reproduction foam and new pre-made seat covers. I think I can handle a set of hog rings.

Check Utube for a how to vid.   Get an idea of what you have to do.
