Car Dollies for Winter Storage

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone

I'm looking for recommendations of car dollies.  We're keeping the goat in our garage this winter and would to get dollies so we can roll the car close to the wall.  Does anyone use car dollies and what are your thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

John

Yes I have a set for our 31 Pontiac. They work great. Since mines a build and doesn't run it's the only way to move it around.

I have a set that is with my Trans Am in cold storage. They look like these from 1000 lb ones from Harbor Freight. Once the garage mahal is finished I will be buying a couple of more sets.

Thanks Frosty,

I was looking at the kind that jack up the car using hydraulics but the reviews are all over the place.  Some love them, others not due to the build quality and customer support being inconsistent.  I'm leaning toward the skates you showed from Amazon.  I like the locking casters feature.  I hope once I get the car on them and get it rolled over to the wall that it isn't too difficult to roll the car away from the wall in the spring.

Personally, if you plan to keep the car on the dollies for a long period of time (days/weeks/months/years in my case), I would not use the hydraulics. Stay with caster wheel only versions. The hydraulics are good for a quick, I need to move the car out of the way needs, or where you can't jack the car up by any other means.

justA watch for the quality of the wheels, i have these ones and used them to get the 64 home on the trailer when i bought her and one wheel collapsed when we went to move it off the trailer.... then it was a pita to find a replacement wheel of the same diameter 🙄

I agree make sure all bolts are tight and recheck. I had one caster come loose and broke off. Same thing can't find a replacement. I bought mine from Menards. The others are great. I like the bars on the side of mine, little extra insurance and stability. Keeps them from flexing with the weight. And as long as your garage floor is smooth they roll great. My initial set was for my 72 Larson tri-hull. So that may have been a bit much weight for only two.
