Trying to install passenger side mirror.

Recommended Posts

I purchased an identical mirror to the driver’s mirror on my 1969 Grand Prix.  I believe that a passenger side mirror was not a factory option in 1969 as the inner door structure prevents installation of the mirror.   I’ve seen 1972 models with sport mirrors, but have not seen a 1969 with matching non sport mirrors. Has anyone with a 1969 been able to install a passenger matching mirror ?

You are correct, a passenger side mirror of any kind was NOT an option in 1969 on the Grand Prix according to the 1969 Pontiac Accessory catalog.

That said, I would get a copy of the relevant pages of the 1972 Pontiac Shop Manual and replicate what you need on your 1969 since the '69 and '72 are essentially the same sheet metal. I suspect it will consist of drilling a couple of mounting holes in the door for the sport mirror to go through the door to allow the two bolts to go thru.

Alternatively, you can make a template from your driver's side door. First remove the driver's mirror. Use the edge of the door and top of the window frame as key points of references. Mark or punch out the mirror holes in the template. Once you are happy with the template, take it over to the passenger door and turn it over, align it with door edges and window and mark your holes, drill them, and install your new sport mirror!
