Oil pan removal 67 GTO

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone

If I could ask has anyone removed the oil pan off the 1967 Pontiac GTO with the engine still installed?

I have removed the motor mount screws to move the engine upward with a jack on the Harmonic balancer. I have more clearance with the transmission pushed up to the transmission tunnel. I need about 2 more inches to be able to remove but it's pressed against the flywheel and main frame between the front tires.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A lot of mechanics I know would rather spend the time to pull the motor and pull the pan correctly with the engine out of the chassis. Technically it is possible but they say don't do it. They say the amount of time you spend fiddling you would have already removed the engine anyway. As you have already discovered, you have remove the engine mounts and lifted the engine up just to make room. At this point, you might as well disconnect the transmission and pop it out of there.
