Hi guys, its been doing my head in on what shocks to get for the 64... any body had a good brand and type...gas oil.. ??? that they would recommend ? 

 i thought i could just punch in 64 Pontiac on rock auto, but this is where rock auto lets you down.. all the shocks they list, dont ALL measure up!!

all i could find on there site ( that was the correct measurements) was a very stock type shock that listed good details of extended length, compressed length and the measurement for the mount holes that was correct.

i certainly dont want cheap shocks, but i want shocks that will fit!!!

 any help would be great, 

I am a fan of gas shocks for a smooth ride. AC Delco, Gabriel or Monroe are my first choice of brands. I just put a set of Monroe front gas shocks on the '94 Buick Roadmaster when I had the front end rebuilt this past summer.

Kiwi, I don’t disagree with Frosty. I’ve been through all of those brands in my life! As a typical standard they all have their attributes, but from a purely quality/performance and longevity standpoint KYB shocks or struts are hard to beat! They are built differently! Better quality, better components, stronger pieces! The ram shaft size as an example will be bigger. That may not seem like much of a big deal, but shaft size means less deflection. Less deflection means smoother operation, smoother operation means better response in handling.

JustA one mans opinion! But you know shaft size always matters!

I have nothing against KYB, I've never purchased them before, so I have no experience with them. I've considered them for the Trans Am. I've read a lot of good reviews about them.

 but what is doing my head in is the mount specifications for the e3 mount, see the spec on the front ones states " lower mount E3 (51.6x82x0)

how does that relate to the 2 bolt holes ???

Both - because of potholes and ruts in the road. JUSTA lives on a dirt road!
