Header choice 65 GP 389 TH400

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys, I'm looking to instal headers on my GP. I see Doug's seem to have a good rep for fit and clearance. If anyone has done the same or similar, please reply with any mishaps, problems or even good news!

Every time I peer into my engine bay I see that crazy stock oil filter setup and a distinct lack of room on either side of the heads, and I wonder at the potential nightmare of threading those pipes into those spaces. I'm not concerned about max HP, I just want a free breathing engine and a nice deep note, so Tri Ys or 4 into 1 are both acceptable. I believe the Tri Ys deliver a slight torque advantage at low to mid revs, which is exactly where my engine will be 99% of the time.

Doug's Headers is one of the oldest and most reliable header companies for Pontiacs in North America. If they say they fit a '65 389 GP, they do unless a previous owner has changed up something unexpectedly. A lot of other big header companies, like Hooker Headers, no longer offer headers for these older Pontiacs.

Thanks Frosty. Now, can somebody out there make the Australian peso go up in value so I can actually afford a set?

That's like asking to solve world hunger or bringing back Holden.
