Does anyone remember the federally mandated 85 mph max. speedometers back in the 80s and early 90s?

This was the government's version of trying to limit human behavior. The reasoning was, if the speedometer didn't go to 150, no one would be tempted to push the car to go that fast. Owners of (then) modern muscle cars, Corvettes, and exotics were pissed. The law was eventually allowed to lapse and it was not renewed. So this attempt I would classify as a fail (imagine that).

Now given today's electronic and GPS technology, I am sure it is easier to actually limit the vehicle's actual speed to 112. It was not so easy back then. Back then, after 85 mph, you simply had no idea how fast you were going.
