identify car from vin#

Question

A high school friend still has her 68 Lemans convertible she got new in 68.  trying to get it insured thru Haggerty's .i have her vin# can someone help figure out equipment using the vin#? it is 237678p179917. Thanks for any help. 2 or 4 barrel, power windows ,etc... paint color.

The vin will not tell you more then the Model and plant it was built and possibly whether it's a 6 or 8 cyl.

Here are a few links to some sites with decoding info;

The Firewall Trim tag will give some of the factory Acc codes, but there could be Dealer added options as well.

PHS is the only TRUE way to figure out what your Pontiac came from the factory with.

Sprint 6 is absolutely correct on the PHS info. I spoke with Jim Mattison of Pontiac Historical Services yesterday and ordered my documents and window sticker. Jim is a great bank of Pontiac knowledge and a pleasure to talk with.
