Where to find weatherstripping/installation...

Recommended Posts

Hey fellow Pontiac enthusiasts, where would I look to get replacement door and trunk seals? When the car arrived, It was like completely rotted away and the h2o can just go straight into the doors. Also, isn't there a trim piece that should go where the top of the doors meet the windows? post-2540-0-06785300-1437951849_thumb.jp

Agreed - I have used Steele Rubber products with great success.

Another company called Soft Seal carries many of the A-body parts, the Steel Rubber products catelog is extensive.

Thank you Frosty! I figgered that one of y'all Poncho guru's would know... I had found some online but without a recommendation it's hard to tell what will really fit (especially on e bay) Thanks again.

Thank you for the link! I was hesitant to buy without knowing where the quality is...

Well, learning the cons of buying a car off the internet... The more I investigate, the more I find. On my last weekend off, I noticed some fire damage under the hood, probably caused by fuel line rot... Not too bad except for some melting of the wire connections to the fuse panel on the firewall side. After further investigation, ended up replacing the fuel pump and lines. This caused me to look closer elsewhere and it reminds me of a shoddy used car lot doing things to help the thing sell. Like painting the rally II's over the rust ( and the spokes with what looks like model paint and brush), red priming over the burned paint, and rigging a 1993 caddy sunroof glass into the hole that isn't close to the right size... I'm sure most of y'all have more experience than I at purchasing vehicles from afar, but for those that don't please look close and make sure to buy through e bay or somewhere that has buyer protection. None of the things are beyond repair, but would've been much easier if they were just left alone. (Takes twice as long to un fix then properly fix ha ha) On the bright side, I am getting stage 1 done on the exterior which includes sanding and priming the body to get her through winter while I get the interior done. I will upload some pictures later today after I get the priming finished!

Thanks for all of the assistance y'all give on here.

After further searches, I found that Ames has a ton of stuff for many older makes and models. I'm also going today to strip the interior out of a '76 SJ at a local junkyard. Surprisingly he has 6 of them among many classics...  (The only thing saving them from the crusher is the difficult location they're in) I will post pictures of the ol' GP's interior as well as the junkyards location and number if he doesn't mind -- for anyone in the Midwest looking for parts. Was shocked that for the price of 1 door panel online, I am getting the entire interior. More later fellas.

This one's for you Frosty. I can't get back there until Thursday to get the headliner and other stuff... (I apologize in advance if you saw these in my gallery). I am about to put her away into storage, but am totally frustrated with this dying issue after warm, along with the fuel in the oil... Gonna try and get those figured out before I pack her away.

Only 2 ways to get gas in the oil.  Blowin past bad rings or a blown intake gasket.  Start it and lightly spray starting fluid at each runner end of the intake @ the heads.  If your idle increases thats where your bad intake gasket is.  If thats fine, compression check is next.

that would also explain why the 1,2,7 and 8 plugs are all black (rich) and the center 4 (3,4,5,6) are tanned? Will check it 2day.

EDIT: I think that I figgered out the issue for future reference. #1 the "t" that screws into the throttle body at the rear of the carb is threading into severely worn threads, and leaking after warm. #2 The brake booster is shot. The brakes felt okay, but I plugged off the vacuum line as well as the tee, and she ran grrrr-eat. It's 40 years old anyway, so it'll be 100 bucks well spent for the booster/master cyl combo. Anyone else having random stalling issues? Check it out!

For the weatherstripping you should also check Rubber the Right Way www.RubberTheRightWay.com - I have used many times and it's the only place I will buy.  They manufacture some products but also sell Steele products and others at a discount.  Great folks too.

Spot on oldtimer.  I have also used Rubber the Right Way and have been very happy.
