The two tone top is funny. Kinda makes you think it's the Polish version of a Ford Torino. You know....Starky N Such.  Still a cool ride.

Nope - Oldsmobile was like Pontiac, North American only brand with perhaps a handful of special European exports. Early on, a lot of American cars in Europe were brought over by U.S. G.I.s stationed in NATO countries like Germany, France, and Italy, who subsequently sold them or left them there. Nowadays, there are huge European importers of classic American cars- its become big business over there. Hard to say how this one came about.

Yeah the amber is weird. Then again my Phoenix has ambers. Judging by the looks Id say this is a '73. I can't find any photos of a '73 with ambers though.

I agree with you based on the stock rear tail lights were all red and white for the U.S. in 1973.

I agree with you that it is a '73 Havoc since all other Dela 88s have tail lights at the ends - stacked one on top of the other. Amber lighting came in later in the decade. Europe and the US had differently lighting standards. So to Chaos point, I think this car was probably built for export given the rear tail lights.

 

Here is a picture of a stock US-based '73 Olds Delta 88 I found on the Internet. It definitely does not have the amber lights.

Honestly, I think it's beyond stupid each major continent has their own different safety/lighting requirements.

In Europe, you need reflectors but not a certain color, so they're clear. But cars NEED amber rear signals and they need to be seperate stop, tail and turn lights on top of a rear fog light.

In NA, there needs to be amber reflectors up front, but no real requirements for the tail lights, so that's why we see so many red signaled tails on cars here and/or tails that have stop/turn/tail bulbs as one.

Kinda stupid, IMO. Make one universal requirement for all cars globally.

Conceptual I agree with you Chaos. In principle it doesn't sound that hard to do. However, it ends up like having friends over for dinner and trying to get everyone to agree to the same 3 large pizza toppings and not buying more than one pizza, it just doesn't happen.

I do like the EU's regulations the best however. Seperate stop, tail and turn signals just make more sense, as does the rear fog.

Separate housings for stop and tail don't make any sense, especially when you factor in the 3rd brake light. Only separated turn signals do.
