Does anyone have a reference of any kind that indicates the color of the trunk spatter paint for a 67 GTO? I have a couple restoration guides and have done some significant internet research and get contradicting information regarding the colors (black/aqua, gray/white, etc. Any input is greatly appreciated.

I don't know what is correct either... mine is matte black with grayish-aqua splatter (please ignore the hanging down wires- that has been corrected since this picture was taken).

Thanks guys, I decided to go with the black/aqua spatter paint. FYI - for Duplicolor 11 oz can, it was $7.49 at O'reilly locally vs. $14.98 for  at OPGI + shipping n case you ever need it.

Check the directions on the Dupli-color can. I believe it also calls for a clear coat. Make sure you allow a proper amount of drying time between coats too. Proper metal prep is key too.

Black/Aqua is the correct trunk color too.

Thanks Frosty, I saw several articles describing the need to put a clear topcoat on it. t got the trunk cleaned and prepped over the weekend and taped around the trunk and covered the entire car with plastic drop cloth tp make sure I don't get any overspray anywhere. I will post pictures of the finished project.

Very good precautions there Rick. Make sure you've got some good ventilation from the aerosol spray too. Again, having done my own trunk before, I know what a pain this job is. Indymanjoe recently did his trunk on his Lemans as well. This is a time consuming process and you need to give the the paint plenty of time harden up after you've applied the last coat of clear.

A wise man once told me that experience is something you have after you really needed it. So everyone but me probably knows this but you can't change the color of your trunk from gray/white spatter to black/aqua spatter without painting it black first. I realized this after spraying four cans of spatter paint. Decided to start over by painting the entire trunk with black and then the the black/aqua spatter. The results are 100% improved over my first attempt and it required much less spatter paint than I thought it would after spraying the first four cans.

Finished my trunk restoration. Decided to remove my trunk latch mechanism to clean it up and discovered my lock had issues so had to buy a new set of matching trunk, glove box and console lid locks. That was an unexpected expense,but thanks to Ames Performance no big deal in getting the replacements. The good news is I now have a "GM" trunk key instead of the generic key I received with the car. Left the tail light buckets alone so not to disturb their natural finish.

My father-in-law passed away three years ago and I brought his old Proto toolbox home. Little did I know at the time that this old toolbox would be restored and become a fixture in my GTO. He was a great and humble man and a retired Baptist pastor. Thanks Bob for the contribution.
