Need some guidance on fixing a couple things with my '87 Firebird

Recommended Posts

Figured I spend a little bit of time this weekend trying to find things to fix on my Firebird.

Firstly, how can I fix my driver seat so the backrest locks in a forward position? I can only recline the backrest and it will lock, but if I try to put the backrest in a more upright position it won't lock. The passenger seat works fine but the driver side one wont. The seat portion also feels a bit wobbly at times.

Secondly, I have power mirrors with the little adjusting pad on the console between the two power window switches, both mirrors don't work electrically, how can I fix that?

Lastly, the driver side rear speaker cover is kind of warped a bit, do I need to replace that?

Thanks and I look forward to a little Saturday/Sunday work on my Firebird!

  1. Might be easier to go to the junkyard and grab a new one than fix it. Sounds like one of the "locking" slots are broken.
  2. Start at the source, start testing what fuses, wiring, etc... are still there and working. See if the motor that moves the mirrors is still working.
  3. I wouldn't say "need to" but if you want it to look good and sound optimal, yes ;)
