My obsession. The Trans Am - years: '77, '78,'79. I am currently in the process of restoring my 78 Y82. I have taken most of the body parts from a donor: rear quarters, full floor pan, trim, back window. I have decided I hate spot welds! Everyone thinks it is very cool but that I am nuts because I am a female and I am doing this myself. I hope I am successful. I bought my Trans Am from a guy who swore and bragged it was matching numbers and when I found out it wasn't, he refused to make the sale right. The car matches the PHS sheet and the engine is the right year but NOT numbers matching. I decided that what goes around comes around; this guy will get what he deserves. Mostly FREE advertising from ME! but I figure I will cut my losses and move forward! I am in the very beginning stages of resto'; I am gathering parts and have enough to start replacing soon. I need to clean up the parts, take them down to metal then I will be learning how to make my own spot welds and hope I never have to remove them! Wish me luck! You will definitely see me in the forums asking for advice and sharing what I learn through this awesome journey of blood, sweat and learning new curse words!

Sharon - Welcome to FP and all the insanity that comes with it.

Us "old guys" - we'd be happy to help with any advice we can give you on your restoration. The "new guys" are happy to help too.

So tell us, what are you plans for your Trans Am? Stock restoration? Mild performance upgrades? Wild resto-mod ?

You on the right track by fixing the foundation of the car and fixing the floor pans. Smokey and the Bandit influenced so many of us as kids and sold so many Trans Ams. I have a stock '86 Trans Am that is black and gold for the same reason.

BTW - I figure you already know this by now, but cussing comes with cars. Its amazing how many partial words and syllables you put together when something goes unexpected and totally wrong.
