Feds killed Pontiac...

People will have to tinker with them first and crack the PCM's coding so they can remap them, change boost, etc. Shouldn't be too hard for most speed shops to figure out.

An engine like that, just opening up the exhaust, beefy intercooler, remap the PCM and crank up the boost a bit, I could see these kicking over 500HP to their rear or all four wheels.

I want to see an AWD twin turbo GNX sooooooooooo bad.

I totally agree. It will be well worth the price of the programmer / PCM tune.

How much are you willing to pay for an AWD twin-turbo GNX? My little wet finger to the wind is going to guess that the price is going to start well north of $50k. A ZL1 Camaro starts at $55.6k. and the Z28 is starting at $75k, A Cadillac CTS-V starts at $64.5K.

Knowing GM, they're gonna want to make it a +$50K car. If they're smart, they'll start them around $38K and really grab attention. The GNX will be in German territory, with the likes of the Audi S4, BMW 335i twin turbo and soon to come M3 and the Mercedes C63 AMG to contend with. The ATS chassis is great, but GM will really want to work the kinks out big time to ruffle the German Giants. (Road trip to Nürburgring Nordschleife for R&D, anyone?)

I mean, other companies platform shared models, but you'd never know with most of them. GM made it painfully obvious.

My grandparents had a couple of Chevrolet Citations and a Pontiac Phoenix. Practically the same car. Swap the grills, taillight assemblies, couple trim pieces and, from the outside, you'd never know which had been the Pontiac and which a Chevy.

The Chevrolet Corsica and revived Pontiac Tempest was the same deal. Same car, different grill and tail lights.

I owned an '81 Phoenix - the sister to the Citation. They were X-platform cars along with the Skylark and Omega. It had all the of the FWD problems of the day, plus rusted out floor boards by 1985. It was the worst car I ever owned and it is why I swore off FWD cars to this day. It was a terrible experience for me (worse that the Vega). The whole point of a shared platform is to reduce the cost of developing cars in the same size/power range by sharing common parts, drivetrains, etc. while still giving them a different exterior design.

Most people don't realize that the Tempest version of the Corsica was a Canada-only offering. So most US people are not familiar with that version of the Tempest.

Like the tempest and the GTO Chevelle and Malibu

...and don't forget the F-85 Cutlass Cutlass Supreme Cutlass S 442 Hurst/Olds 442 Lemans Custom S T-37 GT-37 Grand Am Can Am Special Special Deluxe Skylark GS GSX Regal and Laguna S-3. The Vista Cruiser Turnpike Cruiser Sport Wagon El Camino Sprint Calabellero and Safari don't count - they are all A-body wagons of one sort or another.

Yeah, that version of the Tempest was Canadian only, but the one I saw was in North Idaho years ago, so it was either some visiting Canadians or a car someone bought in Canada and imported into the US. Either way, apart from the grill and taillights, it was just about a dead ringer for my mother's Corsica.

And I drove one of the Citations, as well as the Phoenix. Don't miss either one.

Could be worse...remember the Renault based Pontiac LeMans?

Sadly yes. It was worse than Chevy/Geo bringing back the Nova......

So it was based off the Opel Kadett...haha.

.....and Daewoo continued to build them for the Asian market for 3 more years.

,,,can we at least stone the SOBs who built the damn thing? It ruined the Lemans name for the rest of time.

These are the same creative geniuses that gave us the G3, right?

Daewoo has their own variations of the Holden Caprice and Opel Speedster. I think it's hilarious.

Woah, when did Daewoo become an actual car company?

I was also noticing that the company that was GM Daewoo, in South Korea was renamed to GM Korea and the brands changed to Chevrolet. Technically, I suppose, those cars could count as re-branded Daewoos and still coming out of the same factories. Only the names have been changed to protect the incompetent. ;)
