[Video Game] Sonic Jump

As most of you know, I am not shy about my Sonic fandom. So when a new iOS game for Sonic is made by Sega...well, of course I'm going to get it.

Unlike Sonic 4 Episode I & II, Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing and the Sonic 1 & 2 ports...this is more focused on simpler gameplay. Controls are very simple, tilt the phone to move left and right, and tap the screen to make Sonic/Tails/Knuckles double jump. The catch; they always jump. Meaning you have to time where you jump, and be careful not to double jump too soon in certain areas.

The game has three stages for you to conquer, but just beating the levels isn't enough. Aside from the stages, you level up your profile, by beating missions set to you. For example, one mission could be to defeat 10 Badniks, or collect 200 rings, even land on spikes a certain amount of times. For every level you gain, more points are needed to reach the next, and the missions gain with difficulty.

You start off with just Sonic. Tails isn't unlockable until level 17 is reached, and Knuckles is unlocked at level 35. There are power ups within the levels, but as you progress, you unlock power ups to use directly in the shop feature. The rings you collect just aren't for keeping you alive in the typical Sonic way, but all rings collected goes into a overall count. Use rings to unlock power ups, skip missions, unlock characters and make power ups more powerful.

The game has three stages (currently)

Green Hill Zone

Mountain Zone

Jungle Zone

The game was very obviously left open for new levels to be added. As you progress, to no surprise, the stages become more difficult. Within the stages are red rings to collect, also beating the stages as quick as possible increases your stage score. You get a rating from D, C, B, A and S. s obviously being the best you can achieve. This further unlocks more secrets, and ring bonuses. Each stage has a boss battle with Dr Eggman to progress to the next stage.

Overall, the game is still within its first version, and more content is promised. This review isn't 100% over, but expect occasional updates when Sega does release new stages, power ups, and possibly new characters. In the current version, I give this a 9/10.

The game is well worth it's $1.99 price tag.
