RSS Official: 2013 Scion FR-S priced from $24,930

Recommended Posts

Filed under: Car Buying, Coupe, Performance, Scion2013-scion-fr-s-first-drive---01628.jpg

The highly anticipated 2013 Scion FR-S - the sister car of the Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT 86 - goes on sale this spring, and the automaker's website now shows that the cost of entry will be $24,930 including destination. That base price gets you an FR-S equipped with a six-speed manual transmission, though Scion's site doesn't yet say what the cost will be for cars equipped with the six-speed automatic.

As we already know, the FR-S is equipped with a 2.0-liter boxer four that sends 200 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque exclusively to the rear wheels. And just yesterday, we learned that the FR-S is good for 22/30 miles per gallon (city/highway) with the manual transmission, or 25/34 mpg with the automatic 'box. We've already had a chance to drive Scion's new sport coupe, and while it's certainly not the most powerful vehicle in the class, we found it to have excellent balance and declared it a more engaging steer than vehicles like the Honda Civic Si and Hyundai Genesis Coupe.

Head over to Scion's website for more information.

That flat four needs boost.

I foresee STi 2.0L turbo swaps in the future for the Scion and Subie.

Especially considering the newest STi models make +300HP stock, and they're underrated by Subie.

I remember seeing this and the Subie version on display at the Chicago Auto Show, however, that lady talking about the Subie said that the Subie version would start at $20k. Which is funny because I figured the Scion would be cheaper than the Subie version.

Doesn't look half bad for a Toyo. Severely under-powered though IMO

I doubt it'll stay underpowered. That 2.0L flat four from Subaru is normally turbo, redesigned for N/A use in these of course. I'd expect Subaru to make an STi BRZ soon. For Scion/Toyota...probably not.

That and from what the Subie lady was talking about, its suppose to get around 30-32 MPG.

Wow a Subie with decent gas mileage? lol idk... it'll probably go downhill once they upgrade the engine. Subies get pretty bad gas mileage for a 4 banger.

there not bad looking but a non awd suby lol seems funny to me. Also 200hp seems low to me but maybe its really light. Lastly 3 of the same car I thought just the Americans did that lol Were the ones stopping doing that cus it bit us in the ass. learning from others fails, nope they dident. lol Im sure they will sell a bunch but not much more than the CrappyDay;s genesis coupe. that car was kinda flop IMO and this looks like a competitor car to me.

Nope, all car manufacturer to an extent use a lot of the same parts over but at this extent it has been done across brands like for the Vibe/Matrix and more. Just may seem relevant as an "American" thing because we pay attention more to it.

Joe, they are pretty light.

I still think Subaru is not going to help itself and make an STi version soon.
