Okay I may actually do this to my winter wheels.

I do have some questions tho.

1. Since the paint is flaking off my wheels should I take the whole wheel down to bare aluminum?

2. Should I prime the bare aluminum?

3. Does this stuff fill imperfections fairly well?

At a minimum, I would clean them down to fresh metal so that the flaking materials is removed. I would clean the wheels with wax & grease remover and/or acetone. No need to prime them - just paint over them.

If you were going to paint them with regular paint, then you should scuff them with a scotch brite pad, clean them, use an etching primer for aluminium, and then paint and clear coat. Plasti-Dip won't need this much prep, but it is not as permanent as regular paint either.

I have no idea how well it fills in imperfections. I would suggest using several light coats and intentionally over spray it onto the rubber wheels. You can paint the edges and then peel off the excess of the tires only.
