PickupTrucks.com gets a closer look at the GMC Sierra All-Terrain HD concept

You don't have to wait until the 2011 Detroit Auto Show for a closer look at the forthcoming GMC Sierra All-Terrain HD concept. That's because our friend Mike Levine and his PickupTrucks.com camera managed to get up close with the rugged rig, going on a guided tour with Lead Designer Carl Zipfel.

PickupTrucks.com was kind enough to shoot not one, but two videos while in the presence of the fingers-crossed-they-build-it concept truck. Hop the jump to view both of them.

Interesting. Has the look of a Baja/Prerunner truck. But we can thank Ford for lighting a fire under GM's ass to even make a concept for a super truck like this.

I will say this, the SVT Raptor is no joke, this truck has one tough competitor if GM gives it the green light.

yup thats what I was thinking. looks like a competitor for the Raptor.

Put a little more front bumper on it and I would rock it.

id rather have no bumper when offroading, cause the bumper can hang up on rocks and stuff.

they said it would be a competitor to the Raptor and the Power Waggon in the videos. You should watch it if you dident. I provided the link in my first post, some cool stuff there too.

both useful and enjoyable

Carpeted floors? For where this truck is intending to go cleaning up the mess afterwards is going to be 'fun'!

Winch attachment points? If you aint winchin' you aint offroadin'!

5'5" box? Good luck hauling anything with some length... and try to fit a 4x8 piece of plywood in there, it'll stick out past the open tailgate which I see no attachment points on!

Box storage? Christmas for a theif with a crowbar!

Box storage? Can you fit a chainsaw in there, skill saw, jerry can?

Manual transmission? GM's been missing out on this segment since 2006!

Price? :o:woot::o If this thing costs less then $50000 I'll be very surprised!

Cost of ownership? I can see very little on this truck that's going to be easy or affordable to fix WHEN it breaks or wears out!

Fun to drive? For the investment you'll be making, this thing better fly balls to the wall and drive over any subcompact in the parking lot!

Gas mileage? 20 mpg combined if driven responsibly... 15 or less if driven normally... maybe!

:bacon: I think I'll pass.... Dodge still offers a stick with their cummins!

^^ Settle down guy lol This is a CONCEPT, you should know that concepts change A LOT from when they first come out. Look at the concept G6 compared to the one that came out...

Yes... but what will be sacrificed. We'll see what happens when GM's penny pinchers get through with it!!!

Just an FYI, the SVT Raptor changed little to none from the concept. Like I said, GM has a damn tough competitor from Ford. If GM waters down this potential super truck in the slightest, critics will tear it apart, and Ford will only gloat.

Your move, GM. Don't drop the ball.

These are some good points but I do have to say that if you're buying a $50k truck, I think you can afford part replacement lol. I've never liked those box storage things because I thought the same. Manual would be an awesome option, don't think GM will do it though because Manual seems to be fading from their lineups. When I have to search for a CAMARO with manual I'm ashamed

I still stand that if I had the money or the need I would get it though

GMC Sierra All Terrain HD concept - Click above for high-res image gallery

Cars are cool, but we certainly love ourselves some big, bad, hardcore pickups - you know, like the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor. General Motors' conceptual answer to Ford's desert-blasting pickup is this, the Sierra All Terrain HD concept, which we'll be seeing for the first time at the Detroit Auto Show next week.

GMC's brutish pickup relies on The General's 6.6-liter Duramax diesel V8 for power - 397 horsepower and 765 pound-feet of torque, to be exact - and higher ground clearance, a wider stance and serious suspension upgrades make the All Terrain concept capable of storming through, well, all types of terrain.

Word on the street is that if GM gets up the gall to produce such a truck, it will likely be outfitted by a second-tier firm outside of the GM production lines (like a Roush F-150, for example). Regardless, we want this thing to be built, and badly. See a whole slate of new high-res photos for yourself in the gallery below. Oh, and don't forget about the Ram Runner, Chrysler's foray into the niche.
