1963 Grand Prix ignition

Recommended Posts

A couple of months ago there was a post about ignition switch wiring and how nobody it seemed was able to figure out the Pontiac 9 pin ignition switch. I had said that after rewiring my car with a painless wiring harness I was not able to get the factory Pontiac 9 pin to work correctly. Now I had multiple phone and email and in person conversations with people that do auto wiring for a living, multiple tech support and the "designers" as painless calls them. The latter being the people that actually design and put into production the wiring harness's that we buy. I tried everything that everybody suggested. Popped a lot of fuses and we'd start all over. Slowly I started getting the same answers from everybody I was talking to, use an after market switch. The problem with that was ALL of the after market switches looked cheap. I wanted to retain as much of the "factory" look as I could. At the end of that 4 month period and everything else in my car being completely rewired and I ended up building a custom ignition out of the original heater/AC controls. So here it is.
