New Project

My Grandfather recently gave me this cancer filled 1955 Pontiac StarChief. Me and my Friend, both 20 years old, are taking on this project and we are very excited to start doing this build.

We are currently in need of help to find fenders for the left rear and the front right. The biggest problem areas though are the left tailight area and the roof of the car in the back right. Some of the small parts with snall hole we’ll fill with bondo. If anyone know how to go about finding those parts or has something like that, we would love the help.

I'd recommend that you join your local chapter of the Pontiac Oakland Club International (POCI). The national club is a great resource as well and they have subject matter experts on specific models that can be of great help.

Agree with 4life.  Your gonna need all the help you can get.  You have a great starting point for resto, seems in pretty good shape.  1st off you haven't mentioned if it's runnin or not.  Now would be the time to work on mechanical 1st as you make plans for the bodywork.  There's an old saying....If you don't have time to do it right the 1st time.  When will you find time to do it all over again correctly?  Bondo over rust holes might last a year or two, but then your back to square 1.   You guy's can look into taking a bodyshop class at a local vocational school, community college ect.  Ask about getting the car in to work on it there. They have all the right tools and you get to learn how to use them.  Skills learned such as welding, metal fab, paint will serve you a lifetime.  It's exciting to see young guns like you guys, getting involved with restoration and preserving the Ol skool cars as opposed to the throw away ricers.  Learning to do it correctly is priceless. Welcome bro. Cant wait to see the pics as you progress. I couldn't agree more with everything JUSTA said. Ask as many questions as you can because you can never have to much knowledge. These guys on here are more then willing to take the time to help and are extremely knowledgeable.  i am with what the guys have suggested.

i would start with making a plan, and get yourselves a white board, stick it on the wall and write up all the things you need to do.

 cross them off as you complete each job and put up new objectives as you go along, also by writing down what you need to do, you can work out a practical sequence.

 Like, 

get engine going, check compression, oil pressure etc , look for leaks, worn parts

take for a drive.

 check everything again...

 that sort of thing

and enjoy the whole process, its one hell of a lot of fun

From what I see rear 1/4 panel is repairable & possibly a 55 Chevy "patch panel" might work??  How bad is fender up front?? May be able to do same there?? Agree with getting it running first!! Then decide if engine & drive line is good or needs rebuild or a " swap" to up grade, depending on your driving habits or if your going the "stock" restore route?? Nice car " I like it"  First year of V 8 & hope parts are available, as Pontiac changed it for 56 [something to consider if parts scarce, to go upgrade]  That was a problem for me here in Ontario when I had my 64 Catalina, being a US only car, but much better for you there.  Good luck, keep us posted.
