Restoring 64 GTO grills

I have been polishing cleaning working on trying to restore the 64 GTO grills and it seems I am going backwards.  Has anyone tried to powder coat them?  If you have any hints please let me know.  Thank you!

I assume you are trying to restore them.  Are they rusty, pitted, or just plan dingy looking?

My experience with powder coating is you can only powder coat a single color. After that you have to manually paint everything else. So if you have something that is (say) black and silver, you can powder coat the entire part in one color (say black) and then hand paint the second color (e.g. silver). Also, to the best of my knowledge there is no "chrome" powder coat color, just silver.

If you can post pictures of them, it would help give us an idea of what you are working with.

I'm thinkin they are plastic. My 66's are. You can get plastic rechromed....$$$$$ OUCH!  Have you checked into repop's?   Ames has em. www.amesperf.com

If you can buy repops as JustA says that’s the best. There is a chrome power coat, but it’s not nearly as good a PVD! If you have to redo what you have I would recommend the PVD, most chrome wheels today are the PVD process.

Most powder coat shops in my area don't carry a "chrome" powder coat because it is not close enough to the real thing, it's too expensive, or there is no demand (locally) for it.

I guess I haven't seen (or know I've seen) a PVD wheel or part to see the difference.
