A/C malfunction

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I was looking for some assistance with my car. I have a 2006 Pontiac G6 GT 3.5L and recently the AC stopped blowing cold air. There was a leak in the low pressure maintenance valve which turned out to be a bad valve stem. We replaced that and brought it to have it serviced. They cycled the whole AC system and are saying we need a new compressor. Now for the odd part: the compressor still kicks on and spins and the system is full of coolant, yet still no cold air. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated, I live in florida so as many may know AC is a must.

The air conditioning system is a closed loop, it requires a specific pressure on both the high side and on the low side. The compressor will not kick in, and the system will not cool, unless these conditions are right. If the compressor is running, you may have a blockage in the system, or a failed compressor (failed in the sense that it is not providing the proper pressure). You should have someone check the pressure on both the high and low sides to be sure the compressor is working properly.
